Body side moldings clips?

Hey guys!

I am playing with the idea of buying body side moldings and adding it to my bird. It is going for a "daily driver quality" paint and body job, so moldings might be a good way of covering some things up.

My question is, the clips that go on the doors, are they welded in there? If they are removable, does anyone have some they can sell me?

The 94/95 body side moldings are just taped on. If you are talking about the 96/97 cladding, they have plastic clips that are attached to the cladding, and then there are holes in the doors, quarters, and fenders that those clip into. If you are talking about the SC ground effects, then there are studs welded to the doors that hold the aluminum door piece on, and then there are metal strips that are riveted to the quarter and fender that hold the urethane lower pieces on.

Sounds like I would need doors and fenders that are body cladding compatiable, which was part of my plan anyway.

So.. If there are holes in the doors for the clips, they just go into the holes somehow? If I purchase the claddings, I have to make sure the clips come with it.

Yes, the clips go into the holes and automatically lock in place once they are in. You can probably buy new clips from Ford, since they will likely break when taking the cladding off the other car. If you need doors and fenders anyway, then yes look for 96/97 ones if you want to do this, but if not, you can measure it out and drill the holes in your existing panel, which you would have to do on your quarter panels anyway. Just make sure you drill the holes prior to paint so you don't have any exposed metal that could start to rust later on.

Does anyone know the part number for the clips?

Are you talking about 96/97 cladding? Long story short I removed one of my cladding pieces when I had the ground effects painted. The clips break easily and the replacement clips the Ford body shop sold me don't fit, they were for some newer Super Duty fender flares. They told me they could not get the OEM clips.

If any of the clips are salvageable when the cladding is removed, just use them. I have a few broken clips on the piece I removed, but I spaced the clips around so it was still held on well. If you're really worried, use the good clips as many as you can, plus any broken ones. Add in some 3M high bond 2-sided tape specially made for moldings and you'll be more than fine. Maybe someone else here has been able to find new replacement clips but I had no luck.

Other model doors for 96-97 Bird

I am looking for 2 doors for a 1997 LX and I believe the only difference between 96-97 and earlier versions is the holes for the wider style body cladding on the 96-97. Can anyone confirm my idea? Also, do the earlier fenders fit the 96-97?

Fenders are the same for all years except that 96/97 have the holes for the cladding. Doors also have a difference in the size of the hole where the harness goes through to the body from 89-93, then for 94/95 vs 96/97 the only difference is the holes for the cladding.

I got the parts last night and was fairly happy with the condition. The red stripe has some damage but I think I will have them paint that black to go along with the black stripe down the middle.

Don't worry, I know what I am doing.
