Window molding weatherstrip?

I need some tips/instructions.

Door window molding/weatherstrip. The one the window rolls up into to close it or the one you stick your arm out if the window is down.

One of the tracks, inside the door, broke the rivets and the window rolled up on the outside of the uppermost window molding. So now, on the outside, the molding looks terrible. it's all kinked and you can see the inner metal.

I have a donor car with good molding.

I don't want to tear it up figuring out how to remove it to put in the other car, so how do I get it out?

Have a look at this Sticky found in the Exterior section of the forum-->>Thunderbird Window Mouldings

After you look at that..Report back with what moulding is giving you problems..Then we can proceed to help you from there..

Since basically all of the mouldings for these cars are obsolete..

If you can tell us exactly what moulding you need, or the one that's giving you problems..

Then you may be able to pick up a good used one from a member here, or locally if you can find a good used one from a local junkyard..

I'm at work and the pics will not show. I'll have to wait until I get home to tell you the one from that page.

otherwise, it's the main window channel the window rolls up into on the front/rear/and top of door. The one you can easily see standing at the car. on cougars, it's the one that has the chrome strip on it that surrounds the window. the very top of the window rolls up into it.

The chrome strip isn't part of the channel, it's actually just laid over the outer door skin. The window channel is the same between Tbird/Cougar

Thanks, sounds like the one I'm talking about.

I have a good one on my cougar (wrecked), but the one on the T-bird is buckled and the inner metal is showing.

Any idea how to change them out?

It's the "Window Channel" in the upper picture in the link you provided.
The vertical section where the back edge of the window rides is warped and inner metal core is showing. If you don't hold the window back with your hand, the window rolls up on the outside of the channel causing damage.

I have a wrecked 95 Cougar with a good one in it I would like to swap into my car with the bad one.

I really could use some instruction or tips on how to remove and replace. I don't want to risk tearing them up figuring it out on my own if I can help it.

Window Channel Removal

Roll the window all the way down first..

Then You'll have to remove the Door Panel..


1. Unsnap courtesy light lens by prying out at slot in bottom and remove single phillips-head screw from upper front corner of courtesy light frame.

2. Pry outward to release retaining clips along front, top, and bottom edges of door release handle trim, then slide trim forward to remove.

3. Remove five (5) phillips screws securing power window and lock switch connectors to rear of panel and pry connectors off.

4. Pry connector off rear of power mirror switch and remove panel. Remove single phillips-head screw from bracket in front of door release handle.
Lift door panel upward, off of window channel and off of door. Disconnect courtesy light connector behind door panel and remove panel.


On to the diagram..

I have the diagram numbered in order..So it's easier to see which piece gets removed first..

The arrows indicate which direction the piece get pulled to remove it..

Once you have the door panel removed..Then remove the bolt holding the Door Belt Weatherstrip on..You can find this bolt on the back of the B-Pillar section of the door..

After you've removed the bolt holding the Door Belt Weatherstrip on..Gently lift straight up on it..This piece is labeled (1) in the diagram..

Lets move on to the piece labeled (2) in the diagram..This piece is called the Window Belt Moulding..

To remove this piece gently pry straight up as indicated by the arrows in the diagram..It should come off very easily..

Finally we get to the Window Channel..Labeled (3) in the diagram..

Start by removing the bolt holding it in place near the speaker opening of the door..You can see where the bolt is located on the diagram..

After you've removed the bolt..Gently pry the channel inward a couple inches..Not too much though you don't want to distort the shape of the channel..

Then work your way to the top of the channel, and push downward..Moving the piece just a couple inches outward..

Keep doing this until you get to the side closest to the mirror..Then push in a little bit indicated by the direction of the arrow in the diagram..

At this point the Window Channel should pull straight UP..Take care pulling it out of the door frame so you don't scratch your window up..

Just reverse the steps to install a new Window Channel..

Was hoping you'd post up a service procedure Rayo I didn't have the answer since it's literally the only part I've never removed from an MN12. I'd like to replace mine too, the rubber is good but they're really wavy on mine where the roof meets the pillar for some reason, and I can't figure out how to smooth them out

Got it all swapped out. Window now rolls up and down like it should and don't have that ugly wrinkled weatherstrip to look at when opening the door.
