Hey J. Going to the 70's will add about 3/4 of an inch to the sidewall height. That will close the well gap by that much. Note that this would also raise your bird by the same.

The 70 refers to 70% of the first number, which is your tire width, sidewall to sidewall. So you are going from 60% of 205mm to 70% of 205mm for the sidewall. The difference of 20mm is about 3/4 of an inch.

Okay?

I HOPE YOU DIDNT GET TIRES YET! 205 sucks.. to skinny =) I'd go with 235 70R 15's. I personally am going for 245 70 R 15's though.. I cant stand those skinny tires.
EDIT: the 245's WILL Change your speedometer too, so I would go with 245 65R 15's. It's like a milimeter or 2 off from the 215-70R/15's. (I think.. VERY close to it.)

do not use 235/70-15s! they are far too big.

245/60-15s are just right. otherwise, use 215/70-15s.

Juiced, like Anthraxbird says, 205s will be very skinny, unless that's the look you're going for with the hydraulics and wire wheels. The 205s will be just under a half inch narrower than stock.

However, if you are going from 215/70s to (edit)245/65s, there will be about a third of an inch increase in sidewall height and will be over an inch wider that stock. At 70 mph you would be going ~3 mph faster than what the speedo says, or 73 mph. That is about a 4% in your speedo.

Yep, used the Dupont charcoal wheel paint and then the Dupont gloss wheel paint.

Just gotta say that the bird is looking very tough. Like it very much.

On the wheels thing, what was the procedure? The coating on my aluminums is looking bad and I've never painted wheels before.

Thanks, now to hit up the race shops here in NC for my next project...

The paint is duplicolor, not dupont.. oops http://www.duplicolor.com/products/wheel.html

I took the wheels off, I know some have done it while they are on the car but I didn't want to take that chance... basically take it off and clean the begeezus out of them. I used simple green and an SOS pad. Let them dry completely and tape/paper off the tire, I also taped off the edge since A) I like a more true balance than sticky weights can provide and B) so the entire thing wasn't so dark. Once taped off just use thin coats of spray paint, waiting about an hour between coats. Then wait a couple hours and do a few thin coats of the clear, again waiting an hour between each coat.

Then let the wheels dry overnight and ditch the tape. I did the back wheels on a Friday evening and the front wheels on a Saturday evening.

If you have scuff marks or something to smooth out then yes. It is not neccessary for normal coating, just has to be ultra clean.

I think they would look pretty cool, they make silver and white as well as the graphite and clear that I used in case you want to stick with silver.

Lol.. I got mine at Autozone.. although silver isn't near as hard to find as charcoal is locally.
