a good quality job, the same color will cost $2500-3500
If you are changing colors, add another $500-1000

Why wait 90 days before Zaino? I was told after you get a car painted it needs to be waxed soon to help protect it...?

never heard that. paint needs more than a few days to fully cure.

$5,000 is how much it costs to get it done right usually. It's not easy to drop that kinda cash, but necissary if your looking for a nice paint job.

Looks good Blown94SC (though i'm confused about your member name), i am really impressed! That is one of my favorite colors. I waited about 4 weeks before I polished my new paint.

Lookin nice!

My screen name is because I also have a 94 SC 5 speed...

Between my cost and the insurance ( had some damage ) cost over 4K...

The insurance only wanted to paint 60% of the car so I decided to throw down the cash to do it right. The body shop said wait 90 days and so I don't screw up my warranty I will wait.

Thaks for the kind words...

...drool...94 5-speed SC...drool...

I found a dark blue one (my favorite color baby!) in my area (chicagoland at the time) that was in pristine condition with 35,000 on it for $4,000 (this was in 1998) the guy just wanted to get rid of it because the 99 cobra was coming out. I had the cash in hand but my dad wouldn't let me buy it (i was 16). Still pissed...

How lucky are you to have two gorgeous birdies...?

I was quoted $3,500 including door jams and pretty much everything else, not engine bay though.

Very shiny job BlownSC.

Thats nothing. When i was 16 I was offered a Gen I RX-7 with a 302 BOSS (yes, I confirmed it) in it for $1000, but my parents didn't want me getting a v8 till I had "more driving experience"

$3500 - $5000 USD seems a bit high. I not sure how the market is south of the border so I really don't know. Forgive my ignorance.

I paid $3000 Canadian to get my car painted pearl blue. Thats about $1800.00 USD. That was with Sikkens paint and clear. Included taking off all mouldings, lights, etc....painting and re-assembling.

not bad. how has the paint held up?

A good PPG or equivilant shop will charge $4,000 to $5,000, but that includes really good prep (that's what makes the paintjob anyways) and lots of wet sanding after the paint to eliminate orange peel and the like. After a few coats of a nice clear coat, it ends up being pretty expensive.

The paint has held up really well..........especially since I don't drive the car during the winter months. I do have a nasty stone chip on my hood though

Yeah, I don't think the rebel flag and the TBird go together very well, but I'm not going to bash it because there have been plenty of people to bash my Razzi ground effects. I love them. Anyways, is that Pacific Green? Looks absolutely beautiful dude. Take damn good care of that paint man, it looks too good to destroy.

did you do the swap? Sounds pretty fun, ya got a webpage or pictures??? I am 20 now, but I got the car when I was 16 (it was my dads since i was 11). My friends in highschool were deffinately surprised to watch my tbird walk all over their "modified" jap crap.

351swap

Yeah we put the 351 in the car it was fun because we made sure mine was sitting under the hood we took enough out of the pan and used the 351 truck motor mounts custom frame mounts custom headers drop base air cleaner and an electric fan off the 94up birds electronic ignition etc. but i dont have the pics right now because i have the motor out of the car right now and will have it out for about another month because im rebuilding it right now but as soon as i get it back in ill make sure that i post it in the readers rides section.

Judging by the title of this thread, i thought you put vinyl graphics all over your car for some reason.

The new paint looks very nice.

Nice Paint!

Beautiful color man!
Let's hope you don't have to parallel-park near SUV's for a while. And pray every night that the car gods protect it from stone-chips and door-dinging soccer moms.

As for wax, I agree. Do not wax it for at least 30 days after paint, and be very easy on her when you wash. High quality, prewashed, tag-free, softner-free, white towels only. I worked in a premium body shop for three years so I know a bit about detailing fresh cars. (Ironic considering how dirty my car is right now.) The primer, paint, and clear coat need time to breathe out all of the catalysts and volatile vapors to fully cure and harden. After that, wash 'n Zaino.

Now if I could just find the time to detail MY ride!!!
:p
Good luck!

hahaha, i thought it was gonna be stickers too...that's actually why I read the thread in the first place. I just wanted to feel better about my car (because if someone had riced theirs it would look hillarious).

Yeah, turns out the car looks great and made me feel bad about my paint. hehehe.

hey 351 17 year old kid-don't put your ride up in the readers rides. They never update it and no one cares to look at it much anyways. Just get a place to host your pictures and toss em up on the boards in the "misc" section. Label the post "a crapload of 351 swap pictures" and let er rip!

I can't wait to see them! Wanna trade cars?

I agree with danimal on trading...I'm going to have to get parts from all over the place for the 351W swap I plan on doing...A youngin' has the engine before me ..Of well, not much younger..I'm 20 and will be gettin this done soon, so I can perk up:p ...
Anyways, back to the actual thread..Love that paint job, looks sexy
