difficulty of repair?

i ran into a telephone pole on wet roads after losing control at about 20 mph (while sober). is the bumper still good other than the paint? can it be bent back into shape? the header panel and black plastic waffle thing behind the bumper are damaged. the washer fluid bottle was shoved back too. what else could be damaged?

well i would rather do a 94-5 swap, and theres a gold 94 not too far from me thats being parted out, so i may jump on that. but if that doesnt work out, i want to know if my bumper is still good, as well as anything else that could be damaged.

from the looks of it mike , the cover looks ok. your not goign to know what all is tweaked until you remove everything. is the bumper ripped or anything? the bracket that is rivited to the cover looks like its off. those are cheap and and easy fix.

well i just got back from getting an estimate, which is way too much. ill end up fixing it myself most likely. upon further inspection, the two frame bumper mounts (located behind and under the headlights) are bent. the guy said i could pull that part off along with the rebar and have it bent back into place on a machine.

the bumper isnt ripped up, just bent up on the sides. the guy said it is reuseable.

judging by the hoodgaps, the two main front rails have swayed right and will need to get up on a frame rack to pull and measure. Please make sure to find and fix any folded metal in the structure. if you leave it, it'll fold like tin foil the next time it gets hit. go for the conversion!!

i agree, take the nose parts off take it to a b/s and have it machine measured and pulled . it doesnt look like it need any paint work besides the front cover

are the frame rails and metal bumper part all one big piece?

i read that it is tack welded on, so after i get it fixed, does it have to be welded back on, or is there another way i could reattach it?

nope, it's hosed, looks like you will be doing that front end swap, i'll take the bumper cover of your hands, maybe headlights, too, because you'll have the newer style lights, i'll just go pick 'em up....

If you're really looking to save a buck, go to the body shop and discuss ways you can save money. remember that the estimate is full of nickel-dime $hit that you can do yourself. It does need some time with a frame guy, but the frame dept will get at least one hour labor for frame setup alone. if youve ever seen it done youll know why. expect 2-3 hrs labor for the work. have them install the fenders only and hold them responsible for producing real nice hood gaps. tell them youll deal with the lights, bumper, header panel, all paint work. try to get a solid, barebones written estimate.
And if the guy gives you any crap at all, pick another shop. one that appreciates customers through the door. you might even negotiate the labor rate paying cash.
Good luck.

yeah, the guy said about 4 hours total to setup and pull and square the frame rails and bumper. how will they line up the fenders to fix the hood gaps? is this something that is done on a frame bending machine?

mike they may go back once the frame is pulled. otherwise they have to adjust the fenders

here are some pics of the frame rails and the metal bumper.

metal bumper damage

i went to another shop and they told me they have a rate of $38 an hour. my car will spend 4-5 hours on the frame bending machine. they would prefer that i leave the bumper cover on so that everything lines up once the frame bending is done.
