will this work? I'm desperate!

My doors on my 97 bird are shot, rusted, dented, no door handles... I looked at every wreckers from here to places 5 hours away from me and no one has doors! I found a 90 parts car for sale, I was wondering if I could put those doors on the bird with the inside door moulding of the 97. I'd take off the side cladding all along the car, I'd also replace the trunk lid. Would this work or am I just getting desperate? The Birds for sale, but whos gonna buy a car without door handles?? Thanks...

It should work if you're only using the shell. You might have to fabricate some custom door panel clips, as I assume 94-97 interiors had different door panels.

The 94-97 door panels fit the 89-93 doors perfectly. I didn't have any issues with the door panels when I installed a 97 interior in my 90 XR7.

Thanks guys, I just have to know FOR SURE, that 1990 T-Bird doors, trunk lid, will fit my 97, and that may 97 inside door panels will fit the door. Also, I know this is off topic, but are suspension parts the same as well? I was planning on buying a new car and selling the bird, but I'm starting to consider just fixing the birdy up using parts from a 1990 donor bird a guys selling... If I go this way, I'm gonna be removing the rockers all together, shaving the sides (Sir william style) and putting on a 90 trunk lid. She has 258,000KM's on her, and I might just drive her till she dies.

The 90 doors will bolt right onto your 97. However, you will have to drill a bunch of holes in the doors if you want to install the 97 side cladding on them. If you're planning on removing the side cladding from the car, you'll have a lot of holes in the quarterpanels and front fenders to fill.

The 90 trunklid will physically bolt on, but it won't accept the 92-97 style LED taillights.

Spring rates may be different between the two cars, and the sway bars may be different thicknesses. The front spindles and brakes changed in 91, and then again in 93.

Damn... more work than I was anticipating. How difficult was it really to get the 97 door panel on? Are the speaker holes and door handle different as well? I expected there to be holes behind the cladding. I'll just bondo all the little holes and sand her down. For the suspension, my 97 is hard to turn the wheel, I think it's the LCA's, I wanted to use the 90's LCA's, UCA's and maybe rack and pinion, if necessary. How do they line up?

The 94-97 door panel will drop right in place on any 89-97 door. The 90 LCA's, UCA's, and steering rack would bolt right onto the 97, though I wouldn't go through all of the work to change them out just to use used parts. Just my 2 cents.

What im looking for is a cost effective way to get my bird in respectable shape. Buying a new rack, and control arms would run me over double what a parts car would. Would just be cheaper to take them off a donor.

If they are in good shape then just take them off a donor. Its extra work but alot cheaper. Plus if your car runs good its a good option to fix it up a little. Hard to find a reliable used vehicle.

FWIW, I'm finding differing part numbers for things like the doors and trunk lid. In this collision parts list I have, the 96-97 MY has differing numbers from the previous years. As to exactly what's different, I couldn't tell you, but exterior/interior trim and mounting come to mind.

I took a look at www.car-part, and saw some 96/97 doors, for example, listed at Shaw Auto Recyclers in London for $125 CAN. Are they close to you?

Trunk lids, on the other hand, are grossly overpriced, based on the search I did (only Ontario listings).

Of course. While they all phyiscally fit, they look different. Just the same how a 95 LX and 95 SC taillight are both exactly the same, except for the black stripe, so of course they'll have two part numbers.

My 96 taillights have different part numbers from 92-95 SC taillights. That I have no clue about. Ford probably just decided to slap a new part number on it to make it seem new

Iron chopz that site is great! Thanks alot, I found quite a few leads on some doors and other parts I'll need. If I can, for a good price, get my bird flying again I'll hold off on the new car and save a few bucks!

... One quick questions guys, I looked at the tech article concerning door hinge pin replacement, it says a good 3 hours removing wiring? I looked at the wiring in the door and it seems to be all harnesses that you can unplug. How hard is putting on new doors? Anyone have a process of doing this?
