Talking Finaly, a pic!

Thanks to JustinH for snapping this.
Its a 96 Cougar front bumper on a 96 T-bird. The emblem is off of a 56 Tbird.
I like the look of hte bigger grill, kinda mustang'esque. And as an added bonus, the car runs noticably cooler. Its a straight shot to the hottest part of the radiator from there.

It needs something to fill that big, gaping hole though...

maybe someone can photoshop a mesh grill for that "gaping hole"

i'm pretty mixed on my opinions of it,.......but either way, job well done.

I agree with the airflow, but it still doesn't look right. I don't really agree with the mesh though, I've always thought that to be a little "ricey". What about a one of the thunderbird symbols from the 89-97 birds? Would that fill the hole a little more?

damn! I should have done that....I got a new front bumper for free too! (Insurance)

looks good but it does need something to keep people from staring at your radiator.

It actualy is all about air flow. YOu should see the underside, what I've done for cooling of the brakes, new PS and tranny coolers, too.
I conceived a billet grill, thin aluminim 'bars' laid horizontaly about .5-.75 inches apart. I just haven't gotten around to it, need a job first
A black grill would go unseen, yet still block air...soooo not realy a good idea imho
With the hood shut, the radiator isn't visible at all, unless theres a lightning bug stuck in it

I've been thinking about some S/S mesh for a long time.
The site below has A LOT of info on their different
stainless types with pics and data icluding how much
of the opening is left (as a %). I don't know how that
might relate to air flow - whether the percentage covered
produces the same percentage reduction in air flow.

I agree, teh emblem would look better if longer. But, I wanted teh vintage emblem in there. 56 up front, a 66 on the dealy in the trunk, still need to find aplace for a 76 and an 86. Got knind of a theme going

wow man, I totally love the idea! I was just thinking today about how I wish the opening in the 96-97 tbird grill was bigger...and you found the solution! Is the bottom side of the bumper the same as the thunderbirds? I wanna get that grill with the xenon lower airdam...hope you don't mind a copy cat.

I wont be doing it till the summer though.

Can you get more pictures? Like, from a distance? I bet from 30 or 40 feet it looks aggressive as heck.

Later,

But he wanted to make the radiator less visible without the shiney grill. the black grille would indeed go unseen, but it'll also screen the radiator.

Thanks for the Pics Shadowdragon, very nice camera work! ya even got the bugs and nicks in my hood
From those you all can see the 66 emblem in the trunk. I'm thinking of takeing my 96 emblem and putting it in the "cab", up on the sunroof control pannel. May even light it like it was on the grill

You should have seen all the bugs in mine after 900 miles.. heh

I had thought about slapping the bra on just for the trip so I could peel it off and most of the bugs.

Wink

Okay - am I the only one thinking this?

With that Cougar bumper, from the front,
it reminds me a lot of the Mustang - and
I mean that as a compliment - the nose
on a 'Stang is it best 'feature".

Am I smoking crack, does any one else
see the similarity also?

"I like the look of hte bigger grill, kinda mustang'esque"

i don't think you're the only one that thinks it. hehe..... just messin' w/ ya...that was the first thought that came to my mind.......out of all the newer mustangs (90+) i like the front end , and all around appearance, off the 96-98's the most. (what that reminds me of)

did that cougar bumper have to be modified any to make it fit or did it just fit right on. And since i have a 96 I'm assuming a 96 couger bumper will be an easier fit for me.

Nope, it fits right up. In fact, you will have an extra part...and it wont be a mistake this time! YOu dont need the middle plastic clip, front and center, on top.
