How to open locked trunk at the junkyard?

What are a few ways to get the trunk lid open on a car at the JY? About the only ways I can think of are to take the back seat out and go at it that way. Maybe prying up on the corner of the trunk until you can get a good shot at the hinge bolts. Anyone got any FASTER ways of opening it.

That is funny!! It does not have fold down seats. I would go have the owner get the fork lift, but the LED panel is the all red pair that I have been looking for from a 96. They only want $15 for the LED's, $25 for all the rear lights.

It is the trunk release with the key needed to open the trunk. I dont think the power supply would work. Or would it?

the hammer and screwdriver way is harder than you think, i've done it a few times and it sucks, takes forever, the easiest way without the key, is to use the power release with either the emergency jumpstart power supply, or with another car battery. doesn't even have to be fully charged since the power release isn't that power hungry.

Key??

Did you look to see if the Key is hanging there. Some yards leave the keys, Like hanging from a bumper bolt. I have seen that.

all the yards around here put the keys under the drivers seat....try a 9v batt that should be enough to get the trunk release to work...

The yard doesn't have a cutting torch? Just cut right thru the trunklid and be ready with the water hose.

Or just burn the lock out.

Just smack it with a hammer 50 times and see what happens. lol, jk. I had to pry open a door a couple months back, try using a long bar-crowbar, just pry the sucker open. Junk yards would let you use it.

Just one more thing that I have found from experience of trying to get things apart/open in ways they were not meant to. Two things often happen:

1. You break what you are ultimately trying to remove, hence making it a complete waste of your time
2. It takes way more time than if you had just taken it apart the correct way

for the door take a screwdriver put it in the corner of the window close your eyes and your in... if you put contact paper on the window the window wont shatter or make any noise ... also works god with tinted windows... also if you can get power to the car stick a hanger in and hit the power lock switch or use a slim jim
method 2 pick up large rock throw at window ... hope it doesnt bounce back

instead of unbolting the latch just grab the cable that runs to the trunk release. and pull. It pops the truck... Trust me that is the only way into mine. (coat hanger mod)

Get a cordless drill and a slide hammer with a screw on the end of it. Drill a hole in the center of the lock cylinder, then thread the screw into it, and hammer the cylinder out of the trunk. Then use a screwdriver to just turn what the lock cylinder normally turns and you are in. Shouldn't take more than 10 minutes if you have no idea what you are doing.

the way i do it is to bring a screwdriver or a tire iron, and a hammer
set the tire iron onto the lock, hit it with the hammer, and the locking mechanism should fall into the trunk, then there will be a rod, push on it, and it will pop the trunk......its a little harder then it sounds but it works

Sometime between 89 - 97' they changed the trunk release wiring from "key on" to no key being needed, it always works...

well i had a 92 and it needed key on for it to work but i just used the alarm. and now i got a 94. on this one the button is always hot, but same deal use the alarm to pop it, so my guess is that starting in 94 when they redesigned the interior and moved they trunk button to inside the center console is when they changed it.

either way, if you have to use the trunk popper to get into the trunk on a junker without keys all you need is the jump pack for a 94+ and on a 89-93 you also need to put a jumper wire in the fuse box from the cigarrette lighter fuse to the ignition fuse. just be sure to turn off all accesories before you do it cause you could blow the lighter fuse if anything major is left on. and the only thing about hooking it to the non fused side is that if there is a short the jumper wire could get hot enough to cause a fire.
