Rear Black outs

Has anyone used blackouts on just the trunk? My '95 is black and i think it would look sleeker if just the rear corners were visible. I f some one has done this does it look good and do you have pics?

Thanks

There's supposed to be some light paint you can use to paint over taillights and headlights that can peel right off, if you need to.

It's at summitracing.com; browse catalog; detailing and finishing; paint, vinyl dye, and accessories; VHT Niteshades coating.

It's $10.95 for a 7oz can.

BTW, nice car. I've always been a fan of racing stripes.

Niteshades doesn't quite peel off.

Took me about an hour with a rag and paint thinner to get all four of the rear lenses clear again.

But do you recommend using it on taillights? And maybe covers on front?

There's supposed to be some in other colors, like silver and such. Can't remember the webpage.

I used it for a while on mine.

Be aware it will never be as glossy as the unpainted lenses.

I first just did a few light coats of nite shades, was really dull finish. I put on a couple coats of clear and waxed the heck out of them and it never really got much better.

Thanx for the info

ShadowDragon, how do you have your exhaust set up? Are those glass packs or straight pipes? Hoe does it sound? Mines a 4.6 and was thinking of doing something similar.

That setup there is two Dynomax Thrush glasspacks.

They stayed on the car about a week, never could get them to tuck fully up under the bumper. If you can get a custom setup that starts the mufflers more towards the middle and angle them out towards the corners they will fit.

I got the NiteShades yesterday, and it doesn't look like a primer style, it's shiny/glossy. I also used some Meguiar's Mirror Glaze clear plastic pollish #10 and it looks a little better. Didn't do it to the taillights, just a clear ruler to test it out. How do you take them out? Just remove a few nuts and remove some wires? I need to put some undercoat behind them to stop rattling from my 12"s.

Yeah it's not primer but it is a matte finish. You can get it to shine with plastic cleaner/polish but it will never be as glossy as the lenses.

For removing them yes. Pop the trunk, you will have to remove the back-up lights. Since your panels aren't lit you won't have the wires leading to that you should see the 10mm nuts holding them in.

The tail lights you will have to pull back the carpet and remove 3 bolts and the bulb.

Thanks. I might do that tonight or tomorrow. What about painting the taillights. The can says for offroad use only. I don't see anything wrong with the reflectors, but what about the sides? Should I see if I can get some brighter bulbs, leave it alone, or just paint it?

um, Vic, it's : rofl: no spaces with colon, or just under smilies, click on the "Get More" of the "Showing: 15 of 68" section.

Those reflectors aren't required, though notice I did remove it from the back-up light area. I originally painted over those and even with 50w halogen bulbs I couldn't see. Course I also have 35% tint.

Unless you have a black car I think it would look odd to leave the sides, but you can try just the center panels first and see what you like.

I did mine even though it is not legal. Using stock bulbs it looked like this during the day with the blinker on.

This is normal illumination at night with the 50w hallogens

And here we are at night with the brakes on.

Note the "brighter/quicker" LED lights will only be a tiny dot in the center, the nite shades coating only intensifies their inability to spread across the entire lens.

I did the reflectors. There's a section with the reverse light on the Cougars with the Cougar XR7 on one side and Mercury on the other. I actually did it thursday night, but I haven't had time to post pics cause I don't have an a drive, so I'd have to use the computer downstairs. It looks great. I didn't use too much. I can still see through it kind of in the day. It is shiny though. I used some clear coats and Meguiar's Clear Plastic Polish #10, when the clear coat was close to dry, but not enough that it would smear, and that smoothed out some of it, and it worked great.

I'll post some pics on my homepage: www.cardomain.com/id/93cougarxr7se, in the next couple of days. I still have to paint the corners. I'll just use a light coat so it will blend in, but not be too dark.
