door handle problem

I have a problem.. my friend was trying to open my driver side door one day when it was locked and he pulled the door handle intill it broke. It is still on the car and everything but it's missing the spring feeling to it and it no longer will open the door. How easy is it to fix this?

pull the door panel and peek in there. theres a rod from the latch going up to the handle. the handle and rod connect with this little clip. it might have snapped, but it also might have just popped off. just open up the clip, hold the rod in there, and snap it shut

the problem I found when looking into the door panel was that the little yellow clip had in fact snapped completely off.. is there a way I can fix this myself?
