Looking to put in my cb as I do every car I own but just can't find a spot I like. This is a glass antenna as well. Any suggestions?

It will smash into the roof and rear window on a cougar when you pop the truck open. That's my memory. And if I recall the the sheet metal panal between the widow and the deck lids a little to small and to curved to mount it in front of the deck lid.

If it's a adhesive glass mount then I would try to locate it towards the top of the rear window where there nothing like the defroster grid on the inside to interfere with it or get damaged if you pull it off. I assume that it's the type that emulates a old school cell phone antenna? I had one once and was not impressed. But it could have been the hidden CB Radio unit with the remote hand set that sucked. I suspect you would have better results with a magnetic mount antenna in the center of the roof. Something like a K40 or Wilson if they still make those.

Top of the roof like Barney Fife!

Depending on how serious you are about getting a good signal and since I'm willing to bet you don't actually want to drill a hole in the body to mount a antenna two options come to mind. One. Fabricate a mount out of steel that bolts to the rear subframe and extends out past the bumper a inch or two and drill and tap it for a coax connector. This would let you open the deck lid and avoid any body holes. I see radio hams doing this all the time. Two. Fab up some sort of Z bar out of bar stock that bolts to the cowl area and will give you just enough room to mount a antenna close to the fender. You need to make sure it would clear the hood when it's opened and that the wiper would clear it or slide underneath it when parked.

Or be bold! Bolt a giant chrome plated spring loaded swivel ball mount to the rear quarter like some sort of seventies rolling den of inequity porn star dope van. Sh1t like that scares people. You'll have the on ramp all to your self. Win win..

If you really want it to work, it needs to be in the middle of a grounded panel.

The middle of the roof works well; trunk is worse.

Edges of grounded panels make for weird transmit / receive lobes; it works better one direction than another.

Thru glass won't work well; check the SWR at the CB.

Anything over 1:1 after adjustment is not good; >5:1 eats parts.

10:1 will burn a fiberglass wound antenna off at 100W, lol.

I bought a large magnet mount from the TA truck stop in my city and mounted a Wilson 2000 Trucker antenna on it. I ran the coax behind and under the back seat on my '94 Cougar then under the carpet to the front of the console and out the side where my CB is mounted on the console. The magnet mount is about 2" from the front of the trunk lid and it doesn't touch the roof of the car above the back window. I'm getting a 1:1 swr reading with a 25 year old Galaxy 88 dead keying 25 watts and swinging 60.
