It's odd. For the statistics you'd think I walk around in fear, but isn't like that. One I live in Baltimore county so it isn't like I'm in the hood. However, even Baltimore City itself is odd.
Side note: as I am writing this the news is covering a fatal stabbing in Dundalk (2 victims).
The city is now under MAJOR renovations and many of the area's "elite" are moving back in so the none to savory individuals are being compressed into smaller and smaller concentrations. It has been like this for the last 10 years.
I have seen it myself where you roll onto one block and it is the most beatifully restored homes and people are walking dogs, reading books on the benches and jogging. Then you literally turn a corner or cross an intersection and prostitutes are standing around and you can actually watch a corner drug deal. It is all side by side, but yet somehow the brutal crimes rarely cross lines. The murders are mostly happening to those involved in the city's drug scene. In the worst parts of the city are where there are gangs, and those gangs are responsible for a majority of this mess. However, on the flip side there are instances of violence in the county from time to time, but they are weird. We have had 1 "myspace" murder right on an interstate off ramp that is about 10 minutes from my house... maybe 15 on the outside. It was 2 locals that met on that site and the girl in her wisdom thought to meet up with the guy... she never made it home. He was caught, but what he did was so ill hearted I am not going into the details. We seem to hear about 2 or 3 of those a year.
Our city and sorrounding counties seem to have this culture...
drugs end in murder
domestic abuse ends in murder
missing persons end in murder
gangs end in murder
road rage ends in murder
I don't like to go out into the city because you don't know if bumping into someone might start a chain of events where someone pulls out a gun and shoots. It is a sad sad culture. I think there is so much stress and depression between Baltimore and D.C. that people a beginning to handle it in very very disheartening ways.
I am aaaaaaaaall about getting some place where the mood of the environment is relaxed and without the constant stress and heartache of the city's constant grind. I can't stand it here actually. And I guess that is saying something because as I said... where I live there is no immediate threat but just knowing it is there is enough to want to get away.
Oh... and clean isn't one I would use to describe Baltimore either. "They" are trying to make it better, but it isn't reform. Those running the city have only managed to make certain select areas "appear" cleaned up. Baltimore does only 2 things. It makes the rich richer and the poor dangerous. Neither can be trusted or is any better than the other.
