The rear torsional braces I've made up for our MN-12's.

Interested in one? I have four ready to go with mounting hardware and pieces ready to build another three. They are $25.00 plus shipping. Pics below.

We are also developing an H type k member braces and a rear shock mount/trunk/fender well brace.

We have tested these on our cars long before I offered them for sale.

I include grade eight bolts and washers and use nylon lock nuts.

They are built using 1/4" x 3" x 4 1/2" steel plate and 1" I.D. tubing/pipe.

I use stainless steel 309 welding rod as well.

I bore a hole in the plates and weld the tubing/pipe in so it is not in shear.

I ship them out via the local U.P.S. store.

It does look good. (rust be damned, its not my car! ) I bet it quite effective when combined with the rear shock tower brace.

Question, why the different sizes?

Two of them in the pics are 1/4"x 3"x 4 1/2" the silver one was built for a friend.

His car has a stock 3.8 car (not an S.C.) it uses a 1/4"x 2"x 4 1/2" plate.

The painted brace in the middle of the pics is on my Super Coupe.

I made the mounting holes off set to test another idea.

The early design on Links432's car used a 1"x 1" stainless steel piece.

The new design uses larger/stronger 1" I.D. tubing/pipe.

I paint them all burgundy/maroon now.

The brace does make a difference in the way the cars handle/corner and reduces the stress on the rear axle assembly.

I got a p.m. asking if holes need to be drilled or welding required.

No drilling or welding is needed.

The braces use the two 1/2" holes the rear suspension member already has.

I include the mounting hardware to install them.

It's going to seriously cold this week end......................but...............I have the pieces ready and plan to build another three rear braces.

I'll be setting up pieces to build another two or three.

(my hole saw finally gave up, so I'll be buying a new one and more drill bits)

We're still working out the best design ideas for the trunk/shock area brace.

We're still working out the best ideas for the "H" type front brace as well.

These should work well with larger exhaust systems.

Weather here is well below zero lately, development projects are on hold a day or two.

The distance from the TOP of the tube/pipe and the centerline of the mounting hole is 2".

I can make one up for you with a deeper side plate if needed.

I do have one here now with a 2 3/8" distance.

Development on the trunk/shock braces continues as does the "H" brace.

I want to make installation as easy as possible, meaning no welding or excessive holes to drill.

IF you are in Illinois and are planning to attend the February meeting...........I will donate a rear brace as a door prize.

Also a set of the towels I gave out at the April 2007 Orland Park meeting I hosted.

I currently have nine completed rear braces and four more to be assembled.

Also...........if you would like, I can paint a brace to your color choice.

Currently................I have two choices to sort out onthe trunk/shock brace.

I may either use two 1/2" mounting bolts.............or four 3/8" mounting bolts.

I want to minimize the holes required to be drilled.

I may also primer them in gray and then use trunk spackle paint on them.

They could be placed under the trunk mat or above it.

They will be made from 1" I.D. tubing/pipe as well.

The front "H" braces may have to be made from3/4" I.D. tubing/pipe for proper clearance.

These would mount at six locations to gain additional strength.

I would be a fan of a trunk shock brace with two 3/8" mounting bolts on both sides making four total, it would keep the bar from twisting, how much are you selling these for? Also how much for a rear torsional brace shipped to 89129? what payment methods do you accept?

I would expect the final cost for the trunk/shock brace to be about $55.00 +/- so far.

Testing continues to see which design (2 or 4 bolt) yeilds the best results.

The rear braces are $75.00 plus shipping and include the grade eight mounting hardware.

Once the trunk/shock brace design is final and tested............I'll begin to build them for sale.

The front "H" brace is still going through ideas/changes until I'm happy with it.

A front type shock brace is down the road as well.

I have been looking into the best way to accomplish this with a minimum of drilling holes/clearance issues/etc.

My idea is to build these with the least amount of work required for the owner/installer.

This means NO welding or excessive holes to be drilled.

Once these hurdles have been cleared and tested, we'll post pics-information and then I will begin to build them.

I may begin to buy the aluminum axle covers and set them up with magnetic drain plugs.

I'll have to get busy finishing off the rear braces.

I'm down to three assembled at the moment not counting the one I'll donate as a Door Prize for the February Chicagoland meeting.

I may weld up another truck/shock brace as I weld up four more rear braces.

I may decide to go with the trunk/shock brace with four 3/8" bolts to secure it.

The "H" brace maybe changed to a braces that runs from the K - member back to the uni-body rails about 16" to 20" back.

The first design of the shock area/trunk braces is about to change.

I am now looking to mount the brace level with the top of the shock mounting area.

I will compare using 1/4" flat stock versus 1/4" angle stock.

I will test using both 1" I.D. and 3/4" I.D. tubing/pipe as well.

I will stay with using two 3/8" bolts per side to secure it in place.

It will no longer be able to be hidden under the trunk mat.

These braces will include 3/8" bolts, washers and nuts to mount it.

I currently have three rear braces assembled and will build more soon.

So far everyone is happy with them and have encountered no installation problems.

My design is simple and effective..........period.

I can custom make one to fit the depth of your exhaust system at NO extra charge.

They do not interfere with the lower arm movement and do not require holding multiple pieces in place to secure them.

Wheel hop............I may try to make changes to the rear brace and see if we can address this.

This will involve additional pieces and more welding and testing.

Everyone seems to be building some type of brace now.

I have an idea to expand the use of my rear braces to strengthen the axle and rear sub frame.

My first few rear shock/trunk braces are built from stainless steel.

If I continue to build them, I will use 1" I.D. tubing/pipe for them.

I will use ONLY grade eight bolts to fasten them.

I am using pieces that allow the maximum surface area to mount them as well.

The difficulty is getting a standard drill motor and bit in that tight space.

I may include a template to drill the holes from the wheel well.

(wonder if anyone else will "use" that idea?)

I like this but looking at nicks picture wouldt it the better if that brace wast so low if it was tucked in maybe better support ? or was that just a prototype ?

My front and rear bumper is just sitting on the car + all the lights are off for a paint job but once its on the road I will report back. Thats if we can get out of the snow here. I cant wait till spring.

The cold and snow/salt/ice have delayed serious testing of the trunk/shock braces under the conditions I want.

The idea of reducing wheel hop using the rear brace is on hold until better weather as well.

Have five rear braces currently ready and set up for building more.

The rear shock/trunk braces will be ready shortly..........I hope.

Working out some other ideas with them as well as the easiest way to mount/drill holes for them.

I may bore two holes in my car and weld the brace in place just to see how that works.

The rear brace/pinion support and possibly rear sub frame connection is still in the design/trial stages.

I'll be sure to pass one along to Mark (SCBird) for his Super Coupe too. I built a brace for his 3.8 standard car too.

It's my 57th birthday on the 2nd of March......................

If you care to buy a rear brace...............

Braces

I'll be making four final test shock/trunk braces for testing.


The production pieces will more than likely have either 3/4" or 1" I.D. tubing/pipe.

The side pieces will be from 3" x 3" x 8" x 1/4" mild steel.

They will have four grade eight bolts PER SIDE to mount them.

I'll either paint them gloss black or gray primer and use trunk spackle paint on them.

They may match the trunk mat better, but will require cutting a hole for them to pass through the mat.

I may offer them as a package deal with the rear braces at a much better price due to the poor economy.

In a word............YES.

Both of them will install on a Mark Eight just as easily as they do on an MN-12.

IF your exhaust system is larger than a stock system, I'll custom build a deeper rear brace at NO extra cost.

With the economy so bad, I'll reduce the price of the rear brace AND may offer the rear brace and shock/trunk brace as a set.

They include quality grade eight mounting hardware on each.

I donated a rear brace as a door prize at the March Illinois Chapter meeting and will do so at the April meeting.

I may also have some of each type of braces for sale.

NO shipping costs that way either. I'll try to post pics soon.

Not a problem............when you are ready I'll take care of it.

Due to the poor economy, I've reduced the price to help out.


Currently there are six rear braces here, two are spoken for.


The second run of shock braces will see the light of day soon as well.

The rear braces are $30.00 and shock braces are $40.00 ALL are plus shipping.
