Late eighties 460

I got a late eighties truck 460 I'd like to get rid of. The Ranchero it was slated for is long gone. It's a HD truck 460 out of a E350 ambulance. High nickle block and the SCJ style rods. Approx 79,000 miles. 350.00 local pickup.

I bought this back in the mid nighties from a local auto parts store that did fleet maintenance for the local Para Transit ambulance service. Not a EMS/Fire dept style ambulance where they are roaring out of the station to to respond to the cardiac calls. Rather the local transit company that moved elderly patients between nursing homes or medical appointments. The story here is that the ambulance came in for some normal service and the motor locked up. They went to the the trouble to swing a remanufactered 460 into the ambulance only to find it wouldn't still wouldn't start. Turns out the torque converter had locked up and the motor was fine. Since they weren't going to swap the motor back in they kept the old motor as a spare. All the newer ambulances were diesel and they never needed it. A buddy who was a regular customer told me about it and I bought it with the plans of swapping it. They gave me a 6 month or year warranty. I brought it home popped the pan to verify it had the correct rods and a main cap or two and the bearings looked fine. Cross hatch looked good. It's been sitting on a stand ever since.

Cast iron smogger open chamber heads and intake. It's pre fuel injection so any intake will bolt up. Ditto on the exhaust ports. Approx 8.0 with the cast factory pistons. The 350.00 is what I paid for it and I'd just like it out of the garage.

A good start for any 385 big block project. While I doubt anyone's going to swap it into a MN12 it's perfect for any other big block project.

Some one used to make swap parts for that. As I recall you need either a four or V8 car. I seem to remember the 6 cylinder sub frame won't work. I'd put it in a fairmont wagon or something like that if I could find one. Just to have some fun. I've got a 68 460 that I'm keeping so this one can go.

If someone has a 72-79 Torino or Ranchero, Gran Torino or Elite, 74-79 Cougar etc I have most of the bits and bracketry to convert the 351M or 400 A/C and front accessories over to the 460.

They do make some nice torquey HP cheap. It's easy to build these up using swap meet and budget hi perf parts.
