Classic car insurance

I called Hagerty insurance today. I had wrecked my car a while back and it was totel by state farm for 2k worth of damage. They wrote me a check for 4500 dollors for my t-bird now it's salvage Great right. I have around 15k so far in my T-bird.. So I fixed it.. Now since it's Salvage I can't insure it any where with full coverage. So I looked into Classic car insurance... For 387 dollor's a year I get 15k coverage if I wreck it or some one hit's me. Thats cheap as Hell There are 2 things 1# you have to have a garage 2# It can't be your DD.. You have to have anoughter car to daily drive.. But if your like me and have alot of money in a car to the insurance company isnt' worth anything then this is for you.

Which car did you have Hagerty cover? Just curious... And 387 for a year isn't cheap. What did you have your car appraised at? Did you send in your pictures yet?

Ya, its funny, Funny like a Clown.

A 1997 Thunderbird as classic car insured. Interesting. Better check all the rules with Hagerty before you actually sign with them. You need to sit down and research alot of insurance companies, 1300 a year is outllandish, even with 3 points. I have 2 cars and a house and my year is 840. Do research, there are others on this site that have salvaged birds and do not use a classic car insurance joint to cover them.

That is why I am saying that you better look into this a bit harder. Cause they are either going to give you appraised value or KBB, Or NADA Value.

I went with Safeco for the $32K agreed value policy on my XR7, and I plan on looking into switching to Hagerty, Grundy, or another of the myriad of collector car insurance companies out there as soon as I turn 25 (most companies won't do an agreed value plan unless you're 25 years old).

I'm paying $285 every six months for that policy, with a clean driving record. During the winter months when I have the car stored away in the shop, the rate drops to $75 every six months. Quite a few of us MN12 owners in the St. Louis area have collector car/agreed value plans on our cars. There are a few threads about this over at sccoa.

You'll need it stated up front and provide either receipts or an appraisal from a car dealer (that may vary by state).

I will say though that Hagerty is a very good company. I have had no problems with them.

Your bird is worth 15K? With a 3.8L and a salvage title?

Can I see pics of this?

I tried to get classic car insurance on my 95 Bird with Grundy and one other. Neither would touch it even though I met all the rules. Grundy would not do it right off, the other tried to write it and the underwriter denied it about a month later - refunded the rest of my premium. They said there were way too many of these cars made and mine had 100k on the odometer even though the drivetrain was all new. The classic policy was $160/yr. I have it insured with regular insurance for $250/yr, so not that big of difference other than agreed value.
