I think you will have great difficulty putting the 5.4L DOHC in your Thunderbird. Actually, I think the difficulty will be insurmountable, partly because this car does not exist and mostly because the engine won't fit in the Thunderbird.

This post is useless without photos..... 'cause there was never a 5.4L installed in a Mark VIII.

And if they say it is a 5.4L and it has a stock Gen I, Gen II, or Cobra intake on it, then it is most likely a 4.6L. (Is anyone making adapter plates for a 5.4L DOHC to use a 4.6L intake?)

To my knowledge, there is not a single intake that will fit a 5.4L under the hood of a MN12/FN10. Then there’s the issue of exhaust…

But you never know…. Let’s not forget they guy with the “pre-production” Cobra engine with the smooth intake top.

Navigator, Ford GT, SVT Cobra R, GT500 here in the States. A couple of the Aussie FPV cars use it too (XR8, FPV Falcon GT).

There were pictures of a 5.4 DOHC sitting in a MN-12 linked from TCCoA somewhere. I can't find 'em now. It did set right down into the engine bay but the valve covers were millimeters from the shock towers and I don't think headers were on yet. It was also going to require custom fabbed headers since there is so little space in there.

I wasn't commenting on whether it would be worth the trouble. Just that it is possible. Not likely... but possible.

I'm callin BS too. I saw that hacked up bird with the valve covers super close to the inner fender. Recockulus set up. For what???? Unless you work for car craft or the car was taken to car craft, its just stupid to even bother. 15 mpg, more weight up front, hacked up frame and custom headers. Why didn't I think of doing this before???? I'm so stupid to even consider keeping stock displacement. And wtf is the popcorn plus the pics of this phantom FN10/MN12. Sorry to be an ass but this 5.4 thing is getting old already and I've only been on this board a little more than a little. If you need to ask questions why this engine isn't optimal then you can't do the swap. To all the guys who have swapped a SOHC 5.4 and made it work I am super impressed that you've done what most just talk about and leave unfinished.

Sir Will please create a new section for the fools who talk about the DOHC 5.4 swap that way all the smart people know not to even bother reading it or seeing it in other worthwhile sections of the board. lol

Well, he said he's picking it up tomorrow.

Come Saturday afternoon, there's either going to be some great pictures or a very embarrassed guy in this thread.

a 5.4 dohc is doable but most dont have the time, money, fab experience to pull it off. If a 5.4 dohc can fit in a ford escort (its being done).

It does fit between the towers and i remeber seeing the pics the guy hacked the frame to trhy and run kooks headers thats kinda unessesary. you could just fabricate head hugging log manifolds. as far as an intake that will fit even under a cowl hood good luck and bring a good sized wallet$$$$$$$
