$250 bought a working car!

So theres been this car in the back of my stores parking lot for about 7-8 months. I asked the girl who owned it why was it still there, she said she was using it and then the transmission broke and the car wouldnt drive so she bought a new car and left it there.

I asked her how much she wanted for it and she said 500, and before i could say anything she said but ill take 250, so i went to the atm and came back and bought it thinking it didnt run....

well i went to the parking lot, it didnt crank. battery seemed dead. i went to autozone and bought a used battery for 25 dollars, a set of spark plugs for 4.50, grabbed my tool set and went back, replaced the battery, changed the spark plugs, fired right up. Well she said the trans was messed up, so i stuck it in drive and it didnt want to go, so i stuck it in 1st (auto) and it drove fine, went to 2nd, it was fine, then i stuck it in D and its been fine ever since!

i drove it about 50 miles yesterday with no problems, well i say that, the trans slipped 2 or 3 times but went right back in gear when i eased off the gas.

1995 mazda protege, 196k miles.

I sold it to a guy in LA (IIRC, that's where he was from). He was on TCCoA I think, but I never heard anything after he drove up here an picked it up.

That car had a lot of miles still in it!!!

Im not sure what your supposed to be saying in that sentence, but i assume you meant to say

" why did you pick this up if you just bought the 350z?"

It was 250 dollars and i got it as a extra car, other people in my family could use it. I put about 300 into it the last couple days on misc stuff so all i have in it so far is about 550 and its running good.

If i do have to replace the transmission i found one at a junk yard for 400 and it only has 90k miles on it. I might go ahead and buy it because i know sooner or later it will need it.

So basically you are going to have about $1000 into a beat up POS Mazda Protege with 200K miles? Sounds to me like you over-paid!

You can't ever depend on KBB for the value of a car. They over qoute from what I've seen.

And you really can't argue with 30+ miles per gallon. For once Musto I agree with you.Good find.

But the 350Z is still a slow mid-low 14 car.

04 PI swap,SVO Supercharger 8-9 psi,Alcohol injection,39lbs Cobra injectors,XCal2-Walbro 255 LPH fuel pump,4.10 T-Lok,2003 4R70W built to withstand by RobertP,450hp JMOD,3800 circleD stall,trucool 4739 Trans Cooler,Dynotech 3.5 Driveshaft,70mm T/B,SCP Cold Air Intake,90mm LMAF,JBA headers,Magnaflow Midmount,No cats with 3inch piping,Vogtland 1.6inch drop,Cobra R's and xenon body kit.

Its slow, Really.

put some lucas in it and see if that helps it any. I know its like putting a band-aid on a broken arm, but it should help it more than it is now, probably make it hold out longer until you get that transmission.
