Angry Anybody here ever have their 360 die on them?

Oh my god, xbox 360's Customer Service is terrible. I can't understand half of what they are saying in the first place, then when I can I have to repeat what I said 5 different times. On top of all that, they are asking me questions about my 360 when it's unplugged and dead.

So, anybody else ever experienced the "three rings of death"? I've had mine since my 16th Bday and it just now messed up. Now I gotta send it in...

My friend had the RROD once, before it was a common (or at least publicized) problem. He called up Microsoft, they sent him a box, he sent the 360 back and had a new one back within a week. Plus they gave him free XBL membership for a month or two.

About a year later, the same thing ended up happening to his new 360. He sent it back to them, they sent him another one.

They said they would "repair" it. I'm like forget that, just send me a new one! lol.

Yeah I've known about these problems for a while. Luckily mine lasted for two years. That sounds so lame when I have a Super Nintendo and N64 right next to it that work like the day I got them.

They didn't repair either of his, the first one they sent him was a new 360, the second one they sent him was a refurbished one.

Mine died, I took it apart and removed the crappy X clamps holding on the heatsinks, cleaned off what little heat paste there was (the CPU was maybe 1/4 covered) put on some arctic silver and bolted the heatsinks on through the bottom of the board.

I would do open heart surgery too, but it breaks any warranty on it..Plus I have my friend's 360 just in case I wanna play.

I called them twice today. Once at 8am, they said "call back in an hour, we are updating our systems." I call back and have to do it all over again because the guy got my number wrong, and after all of it again he said "oh we are still updating our system, call back tomorrow."

The QC on rev1 just blows, I've heard of rev2 failing as well (the ones with the additional heatsink for the GPU), rev3 is supposed to be a cooler die so who knows if that one will have the same failure rate.

I have the first one, I'm surprised it lasted this long. I just wish they'd make the system reliable. There was a point in time where I actually had to baby my system. :\

Well actually I didn't baby it, I just had to punch the side to get the disc tray to open. hahahaha

Yeah, it's strange, my friend has had a 360 since launch and another friend has had one relatively early on and neither of them has had any problems.

I'm still debating whether or not to buy a 360 - my roommate has a PS3, which essentially means I have one, at least for the next year. Maybe after I graduate, I'll buy a PS3, but what's mostly stopping me from picking up a 360 is the fact that the RROD seems so common.

Hm, you know, before I read this thread, the number of people I know with 360s...

who had problems: 1
who had no problems: 2

Now it's gone to 4:2, 6:2 if I count alaisch's two friends.

I think I'll have to pass on the 360.

I have a halo 3 system it works great my first 360 never had problems but I sold it so I could get the halo 3 system and hdmi port. I have repaired them with a kit before though in fact I just ordered another broken 360 from ebay so I can repair it. http://www.extreme-mods.com/RROD-Red...ir-rrodkit.htm You can also buy the tools for it and get some artic silver or some other thermal compound, and of course open the box up and check to make sure the solders are good on the graphics chip and processor, then after that scrape the old thermal compound off with a business card or credit card, and apply a pea size bead on the top of the chip after that smear it with a clean business card or credit card again, mate up the heatsinks and you should be good as new you can also modify heat sinks for pc's to work better they also make fans for your 360 for inside the case not outside, these work very well. I have repaired 4 of these and they work great, I did have one with a bad dvd rom the rest all just required the repair I just breifly discussed. you can find all the info on repairing it online with a yahoo or google search. When I repair this new one I will try to take video of the reapair and the mods I do to it and post it, I normally dont mod them so it will be new to me. Also the ps3 is pretty easy to fix too. I have fixed 2 good luck and if you do have any questions give me a shout I might be able to help, remember taking apart a system like that is not for the unexperienced and it will void the man. warranty. I started modding dreamcasts and playstations then when on to ps1, ps2's, and xboxs I have done these a million times I used to buy plastation's in bulk from pawnshops and get like 10 to 15 of them and I would fix them, mod them and sell them on ebay back in the good ole days. If you like to work on your car you can do the fix just be careful and buy the tools.

I'm on #4.... the last one I turned it off to eat dinner. 20 minutes later, RROD was staring me in the face!! It has always taken exactly 3 weeks from the day I got the empty box to get a refurbished one back. I kept hoping to get one with a hdmi hook up.

The 360 is the best game system for online play now if you are just into one player games then the ps3 is the way to go but I will tell you the new 360's with the hdmi port and the falcon gpu is pretty rock solid, these do have problems but not as much as the first 2 gens. The falcon chipset 360 has a bigger and more efficient heat sink design with a bigger heat pipe, it is worth it to buy it you will have lots of fun playing the games, and think this way too, why do the people keep buying new 360's and put up with it breaking cause microsoft will fix it and the gaming experience is top notch. microsoft puts a 3 year warranty against the RROD and a 1 year against hardware failure, I have seen turnaround times with some of my buddies as short as 2 weeks all the way to 6 weeks. Anyway sony puts 90 days on theirs and they do break, especially the BD roms they go out if you watch alot of movies, and the power supplies burn out too. Now I am not saying the 360 is the best, but the ps3 has flaws too. You just dont hear too much about them because 360 to ps3 owners is alot less more like a 6:1 ratio this number is just me guessing but you get the idea. If you dont have a reciept or your warranty is up MS will charge you 100.00 for the reapair and sony charges you buy the hour and for parts. MS also just sends you a refurbished box not the same one you had. I hope this info helps you out the system is awesome, I am not trying to tell you get the xbox thats the only choice, I just want you to be informed that it is a good system and especially if you buy a new premium or elite system stay away from cores unless it is garaunteed to have a hdmi port some stores still have the old systems that are almost garaunteed to get the RROD. Also my Halo 3 system stays on all the time and goes into power save mode after a while, I have basically left it on for over 14 months, now I do occasionally shut it down completely when I test the ones I repair, but that isnt much and the powersave mode cools down everything anyway. hope this helps good luck!

I have gone through 3 xbox 360's every time I had no problem with the customer service and every time I get a free month card with the "new" one. I now have another one which I got for 100$(got it from a friend) that I bought the fans that clip on the back that is over a year old now and working flawlessly. I also noticed that once I moved the one form on top of the dvd player to the top of the tv that it hasn't died since so I would say heat is the biggest issue.
