Ever any diecast Thunderbirds?

Either those 1:18 bigger cars or little Hot Wheels size? I haven't found any but maybe there was something like only from a Ford dealership or something. I know there are a few plastic models and cars that are, from what I remember, like '91 Super Coupe NASCAR toys but I'm talking about regular stock versions of the Thunderbird (or Cougar or Mark VIII for that matter). I remember years ago buying a 1:18 diecast Forty Nine concept car for a friend -

2001 Ford Forty Nine Concept diecast model car 1:18 scale by AUTOart

and that thing never even existed as a real car! I can't believe there was never a regular Thunderbird LX scale car available, at least from Ford but I know I could have missed it in the Googlesphere.

Somewhere I have two of them, not 1:18 scale but 1:43 scale that I've had for years. I can't remember where I got them exactly but probably at a local grocery store, you know how they often have a small toy section and they tend to have some cheap diecast cars for kids. Probably never see them in a store these days, but may turn up on the internet somewhere. One is a nice green color and the other one is done up like a NYPD police car. I'll have to look for pictures.

Edit: not 1:43 scale either, they're actually 1:32 scale. I found a few on ebay in police car form, no regular versions though. The brand is apparently either "New Ray" or "Speedy Power" here's one example:

Found one on this other site, that is not in English. https://produto.mercadolivre.com.br/...ew-ray-132-_JM

Wow, thanks! Did some places actually use Thunderbirds as cop cars?

They used them as Undercover cars around here in the late 90's - I found that out when I weaved through some freeway traffic in my 94 SC to catch up to this 97 LX and he started talking to me on his loudspeaker system.

The two door car is not set up to take somebody into custody - so it would probably be limited to traffic / highway patrol / undercover use.

They were used as test mules by the Dearborn police too, there were some old shots floating around of an 87 or 88 in full police livery with a pre-production SC 3.8.

Oh just reminded me .. I did see the 2001 Ford 49 concept car in person at a local auto convention years ago ( about 2005 IIRC because they had the Chevy Trailblazer SS that I was "looking at" before I bought one ) , so yes it technically did exist in physical form.

I have a couple Hot Wheels 1:43 scale Thunderbirds and the 1:32 pictured above .. never did find much else besides plastic Revell model kits. I'll try to gather them together for a picture some time.

Ya, I saw the concept car at an auto convention, too, I'm just saying that Ford or somebody could have put as much effort into an available car that they are selling in dealerships as they did into a concept car that nobody would know about if they weren't walking around an auto show that year and release a a diecast car or two.

I'm sure they easily could have, but Ford obviously doesn't give a shit about die cast fucking cars.

Maybe it was the Powered by Thunderbird emblem on the side that killed the project or the fact that the ugly ass Retro Tbird did not sell as well as they wanted.

Wait, are you asking why they didn't build the 49 concept or why they don't make die cast of everything they've ever produced ( and not because it was a cool concept, just simply be cause. ) .. Im sure somebody out there wants a Ford Fiesta or Escort hatchback die cast collector car.

Ford et al has nothing to do with making model cars other than collecting lisencing fees. It’s not at all uncommon for concept cars to be made in scale instead of production cars, that you can get a plain 1:18 fiesta is a very recent development in the diecast world. Back when MN12s were new in the 90s most of what existed in 1:18 were iconic muscle cars(roadrunners, chevelle SS) and exotic cars.

I'm asking about normal diecast cars, either the Hot Wheels size or the 1:18 detailed stuff. I remember back in the day Tomica (Japanese company, I think) used to make a lot of those small diecast cars of some the most average family sedan type cars you can imagine, it gets boring when you're playing with those cars as a kid to have a fake city filled with nothing but the same dozen or so muscle car/sports car designs, it's better to have a few "normal" cars to break up the look and make the cool cars look even cooler next to the boring cars.

But, definitely, I wish they'd made the 49 concept car, I might have bought one, I know one of my friends would have leapt at the chance, she loved that thing. The last version of the Thunderbird was the weak sauce attempt at the same vibe, anyway.
