Quotes that make you want to sell your car

Insurance quote that is:

Hey guys, I have a slight situation:

Since purchasing the LSC, my insurance has risen to $2600.00 per six months. It is the only car on my policy right now and this is with a clean PA liscence. I'm not very happy about that, but it is "doable" on what I earn now without setting me back too far. However, in the long run it will cost me since I am going to transfer to a more expensive school with a longer commute to and from work. I was contemplating putting my mark up for sale, then I got a quote from Geico for an even better policy (higher bodily/property damage limits, etc). They quoted me less than half of what I'm paying now for 6 months which is out of this world. But it sounds too good to be true. Anyone have experience with Geico regarding claims? I would like to say first that I have had nothing but bad luck with ANY insurance company when it came to claims (waited as long as 9 months for an 800.00 re-imbursement once). So I'm really looking for something REALLY bad that they could've done that would make me think twice before doing something drastic.

Care to share gentlemen?

well I work for AAA insurance and our major competitors would include geico, 21st cent, and etc.......the stability and popularity of an insurance co. include their prices first of all, but also their ability to settle claims promptly and fairly. Hope this helps.

holy cow! 2600 every six months?!?! ouch! anyways, do you race your car at any racetracks? if you do you wanna be careful with geico, word around the campfire is that geico has some snoops going around to the racetracks and copying vin #'s and if any turn out to be their policyholders they cancel the policy, dunno how true it is but i think it has been addressed here before, just a heads up, hth, later'z....

What kind of wackjobs pulled that stunt on you? I'd get some quotes from other companies in general first, and then play them against your current provider. Some times you can get people to be more reasonable that way.
Personally, I've been with allstate, and both the prices have been reasonable (esp since I hit 21) and they were very good in handling my accident (not my fault). I'm paying like $600 every six for my Bird and my 93 Vic. Clean driving record will do great things for you.

I had a friend that was using State Farm and he liked them. He had a rock fall off a dump truck and hit his hood. From the insurance he got the whole car painted because he said the painting of a new hood wouldn't match the rest of the paint and they agreed and paid for a whole paint job.

I have Allstate and I haven't had a claim or anything but they aren't bad. My first ticket nothing happend. My second ticket and it went up just a very little bit. Then it went back to normal and right after that I got another ticket and nothing happend.

Good luck

Man you are totally getting ripped off. I would switch to another insurance company like Gieco or someone else who is cheaper.

Also your zip code effects your insurance prices. Some zip codes even though they are right next to each other, will have tremendously different prices. Don't know why, but thats the way insurance companies work.

I pay just under 1200 bucks every six months on my T-Bird through State Farm. My policy is 100/300k property/bodily injury, 100 deductable, comprehensive with 80/20 rental coverage. I'm 21 with 1 accident on my record. You're getting screwed.

ok today's insurance tip - zip code to zip code premiums variance is determined by
- accident claims per year
- theft claims per year
- body shop labor costs
- body shop parts costs
sucks big time for me as well, my ins would drop by 1/3 if I move to my job's zip code only 10 minutes from home.

Sometimes its good to be old!!

4 vehicles: 69 F100, 94 T'Bird, 95 Cougar (liability only on those 3), 97 LSC (full coverage) = $2,000 PER YEAR!!

But some things that will greatly effect your premiums:
Deductables: The higher the deductable, the lower the premium. I go with the highest that I'm willing to cough up out of pocket.
Driving record: Blah, blah, blah... you know the routine.

Oh, and I have Geico and have NEVER had any problems with them.

97 Lincoln Mark VIII LSC (Chip'd, 3.73 T/L... so far... )
97 Ford Aspire (Slow, but getting 36 mpg (f'n Ethenol!! )
84 F250 Dually w/6.9L Diesel (7.3L IDI pending)
73 Mercury Cougar Convertible w/351C 4V (Partially Restored)

Bill, you worked too hard to get that car. Check around on ins. before you do anything drastic.

I'll be feeling the insurance monster in a few months myself. It's 2500 a year for both my cars right now, and taking the 85 t/c and bumping it up to a 99 or newer stang is definately going to hurt!

Sadly, the people that I'm with right now are the second cheapest that I can get without switching to Geico (trust me, I definetly did my HW on this one). Next down the line is progressive, and I'm not even going to tell you what they wanted . . . I ran the LSC once at the track, but it isn't a habbit.

With my current provider, I was paying 1700 per six months with a 1996 cougar and a 1987 XR7 on my policy. The LSC falls into the "sports car" category and "has a higher probability of being stolen" so they say which is why I'm getting raped right now.

I have USAA and my insurance costs about $600 (I think?) per 6 months. Their claim service is great, too. I had my car in the shop and fixed right a week after my breaki-in. The only thing is, I'm pretty sure you have to be either a government employee, a member of the armed services, or a son/daughter of one.

State farm has been great for me. Less than 100 per month but then I am 42 and have had a clean driving record for over 5 years. Plus I live in a small midwestern town, and I have a $500 deductible. I would definitely look into other companies and raising my deductible if I someone quoted me a 5200 per year quote!

Where we're located, Geico is outrageous. We have Liberty Mutual and are paying a very reasonable rate for our insurance. Geico was like $800 more per 6 months than who we have now.
Of course, driving records have alot to do with premiums too. I have a clean license but my wife got caught doing 66 in a 30 2 years ago. Unbelievably, our rates never went up. I thought for sure we were cancelled but nothing ever came from it.
I do know this though, no amount of insurance would force me to sell my Super Coupe. If I couldn't afford the insurance I would park it until I could. I've waited too long to own one and I'll never be without one again.

I'm 34 with 95 LX V8, and a 95 SC. Both cars are paid off so I don't carry collision but have all other coverages. $936 a year with GEICO. Also if you use GEICO be aware that their premiums are set up as a pay for 4 months insured for six plan. I make four payments and the last 2 months are covered with no premium. I have 1 ticket for 24 over.(Honestly officer I . . .I. . .I. . .nevermind, just give me the ticket lol)
