I would guess 97-99....when I met my wife in 95, prices were still .99 to 1.05, and then prices started going up right after that.

Remember, the building thing didn't happen until fall of 01. That leaves a fair portion of the year still available.

If I'm remembering right, I think it was $1.35 or so when I started driving in early 03, and I'm 15- 20 minutes from Newark. I'm going to have to say 00-01.

I got my license on September 27th, 2001, just two weeks or so after the attacks, and I distinctly remember fuel prices under a dollar a gallon while I had my Explorer (Sept 01-Feb 02). I'm pretty sure I still have some receipts attesting to this fact somewhere

Cool

OK, It's time to let the cat out of the bag . I received delivery on my brand new Escort LX sport on ------ Feburary 1, 1995 I was living in the beach area at the time around Long Neck road, Oak Orchard. For those who are familiar with Slower Lower Delaware, This picture was taken at the intersection of rt. 24 and rt.5 where you turn to go to Oak Orchard. Since it is in Feb., it is Off Season which means the prices are normal (for the area) during the winter, but still higher than the rest of Delaware. During the summer, the prices inflate for the tourist season. So, if you where to move inland away from the beaches (then), the gas prices would be .20 to .30 cents less.

The Mock prize goes to -- Greenbird, who guessed 1995
The runner up goes to tbirdsmitty for guessing '95-'96

Looking up past escort history only left a a short timeframe in which he could have bought an a new escort exactly like that.

I remember when gas was like $.999 a couple years ago. I WAS hoping for less, but that year it went up to like $1.799.

exactly.. i figured prices in the northeast would be similar throughout the area, and in 1999 it was only about $1.00 for regular in jersey.

Cool

I wasn't sure if anybody would know or remember that '96 was the last year for this Escort body style. In '97 Ford redesigned it to a four door, mini Taurus-yech! The price reflects what it cost in the beach area during Off Season. Inland, and upper De., the price would of been around a 1.00 for the cheap stuff, and about 1.15 for the good stuff!!
