Talking What a "Vacation"!!!!

Good grief, what a vacation... if you want to call it that!!!

Last week I went to NJ to work on my dad Mark VIII (blend door… ICK!!!) and pick up the 73 Cougar Convertible he was giving me. The Cougar needed a “little” work to get it road ready….

Here’s the list of things that I accomplished in the FIVE 15 hour days of nothing but working on cars!!!

Repaired the blend door on my dad’s Mark VIII (7 hours… I’m improving!!)
Installed/plumbed/tuned new Holley 750 4160 carburetor (after removing the Carter)
Installed and tested battery cables/battery tray/battery/convertible top main wiring
Installed and tested the XR-7 dash (full gauges vs. idiot lights) (and all the “things are still not working…)
Installed the COMPLETE interior (front and rear seats, door panels, seat belts, electrical connections, and all trim panels!)
Installed the radio and speakers
Fixed MANY (many, many, many, many) ground/wiring issues
Tightened the drive shaft U joint bolts…
Installed new front shocks

Now the good part:
73 Cougar Convertible
Aqua (base coat/clear coat (Beautiful)!!!)
White top, white interior, and black dash/carpet
351C-4V
9.5 Compression (open chamber heads)
Edelbrock Torker Intake
“Cam Dyanmics” cam (0.510 lift/292 advertised duration)
750 Holley vacuum secondary (bright version)
Long tube headers to dual exhaust (needs replacing BADLY)
FMX automatic transmission w/shift kit
9” rear end (cough**cough* 2.75:1 open differential *cough**cough*)
14 x 7 "Magnum 500" wheels

I left NJ yesterday at 2 AM and arrived home at 7:30 PM…. It only left me on the side of the road three times!!!

I made the mistake of filling up at a little local gas station the same time they were refueling the main tanks…. Can we say, “Sediment”?!?! I knew there was a reason I installed an aftermarket CLEANABLE fuel filter right before the carb!!

Broke a rear spring somewhere during the 900 mile ride!! Get this: A brand new, complete rear spring = $70!!! and is coming from Atlanta!!!

Even with the 351C spinning at 3K rpm it still got 14 mpg!!!

I’ll post photo’s in a day or two and sorry this is so long! But what a vacation!!!

I am exhausted… but I now have a car for every work day!!!

Yeah, but they are at home. I didn't get a chance to download them yet.

I'll try to get them posted tonight sometime.

I was wondering what happened to you. Been might "quiet" around here this week. That vacation makes me tired just reading it....

That Cougar sounds like a beautiful car, always wanted one like it. I'll be looking for the pics too.

Nice find! I've always loved those old Cougars. I wish my dad had kept his XR7. I'm also a little partial to that 4V 351C engine...

As am I!!!

My 85 Capri had a 351C-4V... with a B&M blower sitting on top of it!!!

It was "fun"!!!

(And the engine/blower setup is still sitting in my shop waiting to be installed in a Cobra kit car.... one of these days!!)

And for those that didn't see my photo posts....
