new engines announced jan 23rd.

new ford motor announced monday jan 23.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On Monday, January 23, 2006, all Ford Plants throughout the United States and Canada will stop operations for approximately two hours. (Exact time and location will be announced by your Plant Chairman.) During this time Bill Ford, Chairman and C.E.O. of Ford Motor Company, Jim Padilla, President and C.O.O., and Mark Fields, President of the America’s, will address the entire workforce regarding details of the Restructuring Plan for the Company.

In November, 2005 we started discussions with Ford Motor Company for Engine Plant #1. We are attempting to secure additional volumes for the new D-35 Engine Program (175K additional volume), as well as rear wheel drive version and other engine displacements, such as 3.7L and 4.0L, including turbo charged applications. Our plan is one that will involve the entire site. It is a competitive operating plan that we believe will secure this new work as well as securing the future for the entire site.

Cleveland Casting Plant

Local 1250’s Bargaining Committee is attempting to secure two new castings. One is a 6.2L block (boss) that has a volume potential of 350K Units per year and the other is a 4.4L Diesel Block (lion) that will use C.G.I. Technologies. This block will have a starting volume of 125K units per year. These two new products have a total yearly volume of 475K to 500K units; total tonnage is approximately 50K to 60K tons. They are being developed for application in F-Series trucks, Explorer and for several future vehicles starting in 2009-2010. These future blocks will be in direct competition with our current modular blocks.

Tim Levandusky, President
Local 1250, U.A.W.

i knew it !!!!!!! 6.2l is real. we now have the power !!!!!!!!!! 400hp 6.2l boss. surely one of these will interest somebody that drives a t-bird/cougar.

Thanks for that Assasinator. Perhaps the replies to this , if any, can be civil and polite. Please moderator, don't wait so long to chop down the bigots using this site.

Ok, I was hoping to not have to edit that, but dang...
This is neither 4.6 nor 5.4 tech. It needs to go in another forum.

What? A 6.2L Boss engine? This a truck thing, or a future Mustang thing?

The 30,000 figure is nation wide.

Plants to be idled through 2008 include the St. Louis, Atlanta and Michigan's Wixom assembly plants and Batavia Transmission in Ohio. Windsor Casting in Ontario also will be idled, as was previously announced following contract negotiations with the Canadian Auto Workers. Two other assembly plants to be idled will be determined later this year, the company said.

The other seven facilities that will be idled were not immediately identified.

A total of 14 facilities, including seven assembly plants, will cease production by 2012, Ford said.

GM puts their 6.0 in the vette and Chrysler puts their 425HP 6.1 in half their line. Weight isn't much of an issue with that much displacement to move it.

Edit: of course the "compete with our modular blocks" part leads me to think it'll never fit in our cars with ease anyway.

ok here is what i have been hearing. i heard about the 6.2l boss about 6 months ago. right after that the Hurricane was cancelled. so i figured the 6.2l boss would be dropped also. well it wasn't, the boss is intended for Aussieland. i figure ford lost enough money to join the two efforts.

disclaimer: i am noy trying to post exact figures. these numbers are simply a representation of Aussie power.

barra 230kW = 5.4 3v
boss 260kW = 5.4 4v moderate output
boss 290kW = 5.4 4v high ouput.

barra 240kW = turbo 6 cyl. - - - - - - - - that is the direction ford seems to be going.

6.2l boss = 5.4 deck height,3.7" bores(same as 5.0 cammer), larger valves more power, 4v. ------> our version my guess is 6.2 3v. 400hp is only 298kW.

no way that flies there. they already have 290kW = 389 hp.

so, 6.2l boss is a truck motor that the SVT cobra will have. i haven't heard what year they are planning to put it in the SVT yet. no way they outdo the SHELBY.

expect very low rpm band. i would be suprised if it turned 5000. if calculated 412 lb-ft based on 5.4 3v torque.

edited out: i feel like things are settled.-bill

i am totally unaware of what forum started trouble in here. nobody sent me. sorry.

Whoa, calm down, buddy, everyone gets a thread moved sometimes.

Anyhow, so this Boss engine is modular-based then?

The NA aussie 5.4 4v has what, 380hp? There's more too it than a new block to get power in the US.

yes the aussies get 389hp. they are expecting much more soon. they also know the boss 6.2l is coming. their big complaint/comment is they want an all aussie V8. ford can't do that right now. i know they build them there. but they get our truck motors. 5.4 4v with cobra 'r' heads. 5.4 3v with aluminum intake.

they were wanting the hurricane, but as we know it is dead. after reading posts and discussing stokes, we thought there was no way ford would push the stroke beyond the 5.4. the boss is not exactly like our blocks. it is more of a 5.0 cammer stroked. the 5.0 cammer uses the same bore centerlines. it's mod. 3.7" bore x (whatever) stroke. i am sure you all have seen the price of the cammer(13,000) i think. we really can't expect anything more than piecemeal.

ford has to save money. i am just using my motor to guess, but this thing should have 6500 rpm redline forged internals, etc. it's just a truck motor.

my wife keeps asking me why i put a truck motor in my stang. the answer: that's all there is. navigator or 3v. we ain't got anything else.

if, and i say if, they provide this i will probably yank this out and switch. i mean i am going to end up boring and stroking it anyway. i am after the LS. i want local LS owners to look at their cars the way camaro guys did in the 80's when we owned them. they are way too arrogant. then:302 VS. 305. now:6.2 vs 6.0. it saves me some money not having to sleeve this block. speculation is all we have. ford has cancelled their plans 5 million times in my life. 6.2 is not(edited) MODULAR.

the union guys are saying the boss 6.2l is going to compete with their modular castings. i don't know what that means unless ford is reviving the hurricane.

this puts it back in the old who knows what they will do category.
