87 ranger question..?

My 87 ranger has a turn signal issue. When I signal right and turn right the blinker will not turn off. This is due to the turn signal switch not returning to it's neurtal (middle) position. If I signal left and turn left after I make the turn the switch returns to its neutral position and the blinker turns off. Does this mean I have a bad turn signal switch on the steering wheel or is it something on the sterring wheel itself? Also I am getting some play on my steering wheel..I can move it about 1/4 inch up and down with my hands. Its not bad but it bothers me. How can I fix this.? Is there something broken or can it be adjusted/tightened.

Have you checked the turn signal fluid? Might be a little low
