C4 or AOD?

Hey guys, so I have two birds in the yard. One is a 94 4.6L LX mostly stock and the other I picked up for 200 bucks is a 94 LX that came with a motor and no transmition. Not sure how the motor is(guy claims it ran) but figure I will just pull it out and save for if the one out of my other bird goes.

So for those of you that may recognize my name in the past I have thrown out some questions as to ways to go, getting peoples perspectives and now it has changed a bit again. But narrowing down to how I really want to go and with my know how can easily do right now.

So I have a very well built 302 that I had in another vehicle that I pulled out and got rid of. I am now thinking of for now putting the 302(after adding some more mods) in the bird and dropping either a C4 or an AOD in it. I dont want computer operated componants. I talked to my local yard I usually deal through and they said they could get me a C4 for 125 or a AOD for 200. Both of with I would rebuild with better clutches and bands, and modify the VB.

So my question is for a Street/Strip application what would you guys chose? Down the line I would like to put a solid axle under this car, cage, and build it faster but for now just want to play around with a setup like this.

As for trans what am I looking at for a cross member then? Drive shaft? Motor mounts I should be able to buy since the MN12s came with a 302 right?

Looking for any insite and opinions. Thanks guys.

The tranny choice is up to you....be it, do you want overdrive and a little more weight?
Or do you want the simplicity of a 3 speed with no overdrive and less weight?
The AOD is going to have to have a TV cable.
The C4, does not have to have a kickdown.

The crossmember should bolt right in place.
To bolt the 302 in your 94, you will need just the top plates from a 93 MN12 that had a 302 in it.

Hello

If you are going to up the rear gear that the C4 is fine.
The cross member will have to be modded Or made.

I run an AOD with 3.90 open gears behind A 351W & 2bbl.

I have had a C-4, FMX & AOD in my car.

For a track only car C-4 will be OK. If street car I would go with the AOD.

Mount Placement

Hello

The trany mount placement in more forward than the AOD & FMX.
About 3 or 4 inches. The C6 I beleave has the same placement as FMX

I had to redrill the mount & moved the engine back.

I am back with the AOD due to my Gear rule.
FMX & AOD have a 1.47 second
C4 & C6 both have a 1.46 second.

I lose about 400 to 500 rpm with the C4

Remember the C4 drive shaft is also longer. Mine came from a Torino.
