First outing of 2009
I took my '97 to Milan Dragway for the first time this year on Saturday. There were a number of changes in my setup from the end of last season: new, bigger DRs, skinnies on the front, battery relocated to the trunk, 100 lbs of weight removed, and a second nozzle added to the water/meth injection system. I had hoped for a very low 12 second run, or maybe even a high 11, but it was not to be. There was a 10-20 mph headwind, and the best I could do was nearly the same ET as the last time out, at 4 MPH slower trap speed. Best run of the day was a 12.44 at 110. The car ran 12.43 at 114 last October in similar weather (other than the head wind).
The good news is that most of the changes worked. Traction was very good with the ET Street Radials, delivering my best ever 60' time of 1.71. Handling with the narrow front wheels and tires was fine. Weight transfer was effective, and the car ran straight and true all the way down the strip. Plus, I humbled a couple of Mustangs, so that was fun.
But, the car seemed to be down on power just a bit. I assumed a retune would not be necessary with the second nozzle, since more flow would lower air inlet temperature and permit more timing in the existing tune. Looks like I need to go back for more timing.
