Race it Break it Fix it Repeat (onto step 3...)

So i took the car to the track over the weekend and on the first pass of the day we broke the car. Did my burnout and rolled up to the line pre staged staged, got up on the transbrake light went green i let go the tb button and hit the n2o and BOOM car rolled a few feet i shut it off right away. at first i didnt know what was up with it, thought it might be a n2o backfire. my crew looked it over really quick didnt see anything so we started it and it had oil pressure still so they said try to put it in reverse and back it off the line and out of the way. pop the hood check for any holes in the intake or anything and find nothing so we fire it up and it runs fine so the engine is ok, so we try getting back in line and put trans in 1st and nothing, try 2nd and nothing. shut it off and hook it up to the quad and tow it back to the pits. push it up on the trailer and brought it home. at first we thought it was the trans but when we were getting it off the trailer we could hear the crunching coming from the rear. jacked it up and sure enough heres what we found.

150hp N2O shot, 3900 stall and a transbrake....

so now its time for a new pumpkin and whatever else is broke inside. i have a pumpkin new trak lock and a new gear here so just have to put it all together.

Why do you need the other piece? Just fill it all in. When you come over for those lights you can grab the halfshafts as your free gift.

The ZX2 was Karly's through college and is now our spare vehicle. It is on loan right now so I am looking for another spare for winter.

You might need a nitrous delay or something on there. Sorry to see it broke. It's a part of racing though.

I always wanted a Transbrake but it looks like that might be a little rough on the rear end.

Johnny,

Is that the snap ring inside these transmissions that everyone says is unsafe at high RPMS?

Yup, on a roller clutch no less.

I took the most interesting stub shaft out of a transmission today. Need to get a pic of that when I get to the shop Monday if I remember. This one is twisted but not broken yet. Never seen that one before. Usually they are broken by the time I get to them.

Yep,that was in my daughter's old '95 model. It was like this when we got the car-the previous owner put in a trans-broke "shift kit",and it flared on a shift a couple of times.

I doubt a brace would have helped in that situation. Possible but i'm going to stick with unlikely.

The cobra housing is identical to the markVIII housing, which means they re aluminum. I would guess the cast iron case is technically stronger, but aluminum is lighter.
