I never have taken out my 89 Cougar LS to the track, but I did take my 2000 Grand Marquis, and even at 2600 feet wasn't much faster than your times. I would BARELY be able to get up to get a ticket on the interstate speed in a quarter mile. I also wasn't there with a trailer or another car, so I had the cooler full of soda and dinner in the trunk, and forgot to remove things like the kids car seats. It was a blast, and that is all that mattered, and finding out what it would do. I didn't expect it to be fast, 2.73 gears, lazy tuning, and left traction control on for one run, that added 1.5 seconds to the time. My daughter was in the stands and laughing harder than everyone else commenting on the grandma mobile lumbering down the track.
With my 97 Cougar with the 4.6 I barely was beating the stripped and "fast and furioused" fox 5.0 mustangs, or the 05+ V6 (this was before the 2010 V6 Mustangs). I had a good time, caught the bug, but not enough to actually try to improve my car with some simple and cheap upgrades.
