1MTNCAT Back on the Track- New Best NA
I need to thank all those that came and helped me in getting the 1MTNCAT back together this year. It was awesome getting behind the wheel of it again although I'm a bit rusty.
For those that don't know the setup it is as follows:
Factory stock 96 shortblock
Factory stock PI heads swap
Bullitt Intake & TB
Small Stage 1 VT cams
90 MM MAF
30# Injectors with 1/2" feed fuel line, aeromotive fuel pump, and trunk mounted Fuel cell.
Trunk mounted battery
Shortie headers with 2 1/2 to 3 Inch Exhaust exiting mid body
When running the spray-- a Zex Dry Nitrous kit - 125 shot!
I ran the car at the ABM Nationals at Cecil County this past weekend with the Tracktoysracing.com group and friends. Track Day temps were good, traction decent, 15 MPH headwind/crosswind most of the day but otherwise a beautiful fall day.
Needless to say with it back together there are still a few issues, particularly on the nitrous runs that need to be corrected before coming back out in the spring.
First pass NA the car ran a new best ever of 13.12 @ 104.7MPH. Then all but 1 of the remaining passes were in the 12's. The best NA ET of the day a 12.94 with best MPH of 105.25. Needless to say I was happy. That was also with the larger 27" Hoosier QTP drag tires not the previously used 26" drag tires. The car is making more power and running stronger than ever on motor.
After a few more motor passes to insure all was good with it, then it came time to try it on the spray. I Had an issue with my bottle while trying to heat it and get bottle pressure. Didn't realize what actually had happened until I had staged, made the run and came back. The connection at the front under the hood to the box was very loose. The whole time the bottle was heating it was leaking bad under the hood. After the burnout a huge snowball fell out from under the car. Needless to say there was very little nitrous in the bottle. It got a small hit partially through the 1/8 but then that was it. It was totally out. Numbers on that pass were:
2nd Nitrous pass I borrowed Jasons bottle which had some in it but wasn't full. Got to the line and made a pass with it but bottle pressure was very low. This was also the only full nitrous pass run I got in. The numbers looked like this.
Last pass I had the bottle where it needed though low on nitrous but had to abort the run between the 60' and the 330' mark due to other reasons.
However on that run the car pulled a 1.59 60 ft and left awesome even on the little tires before the other problem.
All in all a good first outing day. I just have to get the bugs sorted out on the bottle.
Plus's....The car is leaving extremely hard with the new set up, hooking then, spinning the small tires enough on the spray that it can't hold it. I have plenty of fuel pressure now with the new lines, pump and fuel cell. ALL 3 nitrous passes also had the front tires in the air! The mild weight transfer that I had hoped for is working. Just need to get things in place to hold the traction.... ie.. Tires!
What a way to end the season for me with the car running again now.
JP "Driller" was there with the big Lincoln and ran very well. Also, I believe some others may have had some new times too. Brian Larkin ran his Turbo coupe and did very well as did John Speziale with his Supercoupe (A new best for him). Jason Miller's car also ran a new best I believe. Mike Siska's car also made some nearly 134 MPH pass's. Thats incredible. We all had a good time.
It was good to blow the dust off the car since its been sitting so long. Also good to get with all the guys and gals for one last track day before the end of the season.
