quick update: we got started late yesterday but it got blazin hot so we did 10 miles with a HUGE bridge. I reunited with my coach from 2yrs ago, as it turns out I'm not supposed to be in this marathon but my walk times are equal to or better than the slow runners. Did you guys know I'm considered an International athelete? Yup as it is I competed in Canada so thats how that came to be.

We need to get serious here. My recommitment is coming soon, whether we make this a reality or not depends on the help I can get from all here. I'd like this to represent the technicians as well.

The tote board reads as follows:Jerry Byrum $148.82
David Lomas $125.00
Dennis Weatherman $100.00

In no way do I expect this from everyone here, and I know from the year we all seem to be having donation money might seem frivolous but this is a great thing we can do here.

I have to tell this story, because it says so much about people.
My wife made up a flyer for me to help with raisng donation for the LLS, the leukemia and lymphoma society. We went bowling wed. night like any other and decide to pass along an envelope with information attached and the flyer on the front. So the anoucement was made on the intercom as the envelope was passed around. Then a younglady named Jessica came over and asked if it was me that was doing the event and I said yes. She then related to me how her daughter was on her last course of chemo as she had leukemia and had wanted to talk about how well they had been recieved by the LLS. She had also related how when their insurance had run out the LLS had helped.
She then hugged me and thanked me for the help that I was giving. Then she asked why. I told her about my uncle Bill, how he had been courageous during his battle with NHL, or (Non hodgkins lymphoma), a battle he fought with for ten years. I really miss his phone calls and advice. She had me look over at her little miss and I caught myself she could not have been more than about 6 years old, cute and full of life now with her hair coming back. Hard to imagine her as bald. With lots of laughter and impish smile she is still kinda shy to.
I guess the part of this that is really special was the fact that her grandfather, someone whom I've bowled with and next to for at least five years came over and hugged me and thanked me for all that I'm doing. He told me that they were at their table and each had been crying beause they were thankful to still have her in their lives.
You know, I get a t-shirt that says hero athelete, but I don't feel like a hero. I
think the folks that go through and endure the treatments are the true heroes
They and their families are the true tough ones, endless nights enduring God awful pain, mental as well as physical pain worry and etc. They get my vote. All I ever have to do is walk for them, I do it because I would still like to be able to call my uncle and ask anything.
If this in some way touches you, find a way to pitch in and help, or at least pray.Every bit helps......

To tell the truth I deleted the whole damn thing, but since I don't like giving up I started to postthis again .
The regretable part is that until you decided to reply there was no response to this thread at all.
I'm doing the marine corps marathon in Oct in doing so I'm also raising donations for the the Leukemia society.I'll post the link.

its really difficult to believe that NOBODY here is remotely interested in what is trying to be done withthis thread.
I guess the cost of fixin up your car IS really more important than anything else.
No heart....

This is the first time I've seen this thread. Being a former Triathlete (and having a good friend going through Chemo for Leukemia) it DID catch my interest once I saw it. However calling folks dorks, and accusing them of not caring isn't going to do much for your cause. I've seen these guys come together for some very worthwhile causes before.

Yeah I realised that, the thread has been here for what seems like an eternity.
I started this out and removed the whole thing before. I know what yuou said is true and for that I apologize to all who may have read this.
The frustration in the fact that this was and has been on this board with absolutely NO response did not help the situation.
I guess in some way I was attempting to get somebody to just respond, I let my EGO get in the way. Sorry fellas.

Sorry, but getting pissed at people for not donating their money to something YOU think is important is pretty pathetic on your part. I think you need to lean the concept of "humbly asking for donations"!!

well I tried that approach but apparently that did not work, so I publicly made an ass of myself.
I finally got some response but it took a negative approach to achieve that, see my concern.
I'm humble enough to admit that. The post was here for over three months beforehand and does not excuse any of my crass comments.
I said I was sorry, considering the circumstances its the best I can do.
If by chance you read the post about the girl you could see mu point of view, that was and continues to be a very humbling experience.

I'll make a donation when I can. Right now I'm very strapped for cash.

I was going to but.....
They ask a bunch of info.
I made a donation to my nieces cause, Arthritis, and I get so many emails from them now.

So what's your email. I'll send you via PayPal and you can donate it. PM me.
Or you can even set up a donation link through Paypal. Heck I would be a front man for the Donation through a PayPal link if you wanted me to.

I just do not want to give the society my information for the donation.

And you might want to post in your Florida Chapter. And maybe some other area of tccoa. Not many people visit in here.

Well I had another one of those moments yesterday.
I was supposed to have jury duty so I made the call only to find out my number had been excused. Y'all know my son is in town for leave, so I decided to take the day. We went out and had lunch, my wife has been getting blood iron treatments at the oncology center, she introduced me to her nurse. We started to talk and the sbject of my tattoo came up. The tattoo says I took the road less traveled by with 26.2 in the center. As I was explaining what it meant to me we also were talking about Team in training and the upcoming marathon.
Sitting next to Anne (my wife) was a young woman getting a treatment, she was listening quite attentively and when we had stopped talking with the nurse, she stated that she knew quite a bit about the organization since she was in remission from lymphoma and told me she really appreciated the time and energy we as a group put in and also was thankful we raised the funds necessary to help others.
Its so humbling to see folks hooked up to machinery and tubes and wires and she is thanking me?
I still believe the recovering people are the real heroes. What alot of intense pain and anguish they must experience mentally and physically, talk about real faith.
Thats how you know GOD is really there.

Much Love and Peace

I just wanted to wish you luck with the fund raising and I hope you don't result to name calling since that will probably turn a lot of people away.

Me personally donate no less than 12 inches of my hair to locks for love every year ever since my wife's aunt came down with cancer. I know the hair doesn't help her but I figure'd it's the least I can do since I'm still able to grow it.

So to let all know that care to know, we covered 20 miles about 2weeks ago so I think I'm as ready as ever for the challenge ahead.
The fundraising will continue for about another month, so there still a chance to help as you see fit. Just leave me a message here on the board.
Thanks to all who were behind this and thanks to the board for the chance to post about this.
