Joel Bender Memorial Nats -SB7 Aug 22-24th

Welcome Everyone!

You are cordially invited to attend our Joel Bender Memorial Nats - SB7 event which will be held Aug 22nd (Greet & Meet)), Aug 23-24th, 2008 (Picnic & Car show), and Sunday (Raceday). Location: Martinsburg WV.

This invite, as has always been, is for all MN12/FN10 T-Bird/SC's-Mark VIII's, Cougars. All Fox body Birds, Cougars are also welcome to participate.

I will be holding the meet and greet at my home, Like last year starting at 7:00 PM on Friday August 22nd. Bring your own alcoholic beverages! We normally pitch in and get Pizza's or something that evening. We'll decide on that later.

Saturday the 23rd will be the Annual Picnic and Car Show. We will meet at the Hotel parking lot in Martinsburg then have a police escort to "War Memorial Park". Departure time to the park will be at approximately 10:00 AM. Once at the park we will set up for the car show to begin at approximately 11:00 AM and to be completed by 1:00 PM. We will begin our picnic at that time and afterwards will hold the award ceremonies for the car show along with several special awards given out each year. After the picnic, show and awards have been presented we will make a determination as to what we want to do. Generally we either go on a cruise, visit a local car show, or other entertainment is available near by.

Sunday the 24th will be Drag Day. We will either meet up as a group to head to Mason Dixon dragway or head over individually dependant on who survives the night before! It is recommended to be at the track between 9:30-10:00 to get adequate parking for all of us in pit area. This is btw Mason Dixon's All Ford Nationals race. All of our cars (RACING) will be entered in the Thundebird/Cougar/Lincoln bracket class. Most of the cars there will be our's with some exceptions. Please insure if you are planning on running that day that you have the proper safety equipment and attire for your E.T. All of our cars Showing that day will proceed to the show field and get registered. I'll try to have someone as a POC for that to help the newbies get situated if you are going to show your ride. Remember, their Ford Car show is seperate from ours.

Afterward, we try to go to Ryan's Buffet in Hagerstown for dinner together prior to departing. Of course, some cannot due to traveling time and distance but its kinda nice to sit and shoot the bull over a good meal prior to leaving.

There is a seperate thread on the WWW.MAMN12.com "Chat" forum for hotel accomodations. Please keep all accomodation questions etc on that thread.

The cost of the Car show & Picnic will be $12 per person! This will go toward the Picnic, Car show, trophies, giveaways, and other expenses related to this event. The picnic will be catered this year! More on that later. Also, the park where we are holding this event also has a pool, putt putt golf and various other things for the younger ones. Again I want to remind parents that children are welcome but please control them appropriately!

If anyone has any questions pertaining to this event please feel free to email me at [email protected]. I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Shortly I'll have a POC on this forum to make reservations for the number of cars and attending persons. Look forward to seeing everyone there.

DISCLAIMER:
The MAMN12 and its membership is in no way liable for any accidents, injuries or any other problems or concerns that could arise at this event. It is each person's own responsibility to act accordingly.

Thanks

The time is fast approaching!!

We are down to the last couple weeks. Final preparation is being completed.

Those that are planning to attend please try to make reservations and have the money sent in prior to August 17. We may still take you after that time but I need to have a pretty accurate count by that day for the caterer of the picnic.

For further information about the event see our Chat forum and go to the JBMN threads. We have them set up for various parts of the event.

If you haven't gotten you payment in yet make sure to do so soon. The lunch during the car show will be catered this year and we need to have all the money in advance so it can be paid for.
It will be a great time again this year at a newer better location. The police escort through town again this year from the same hotel just going to a better spot.

Received an Email from Rick and Harriet (Joel's parents). They will be coming up along with some of the Carolina crowd and will be bringing Joel's car again this year.

I'm looking forward to seeing them as always.

Meet and Greet Updates!

UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE!

Things are rolling along. We have two weeks until the Meet and Greet!

For those planning to attend the meet and greet Friday August 22nd Here is some useful information:

We'll plan to kick that off at around 6:30 PM Friday evening. Again, its at my home. (Address Below) We will expect it to run until Approx 10:30 ish or so. We will plan to have some refreshments and snack food and if we want Pizza's or something we'll all pitch in and fly for those. If you chose to have alcohol you are welcome to do so, but please do so in moderation. You must bring your own booze/Alcohol. I draw the line at "Drunken Retards" so lets have fun but stay in line. It would be useful to bring a nice lawn chair as I have limited seating.

Parking can be done in my Driveway (Until its full) and along the roadway leading to my home. Please be considerate of others and do not block the neighbors driveway or the roadway! Those leaving from the Hotel might want to meet up and come as a group out and follow someone thats been here. Its not really hard to find but if you get off on the wrong road you will get lost.

Address is: 116 Seldom Seen Ct, Hedgesville WV 25427, if using mapquest.

Directions:
From Interstate 81 and hotel: Take Rt 9 West (Exit 16W) toward Berkeley Springs.
Follow Rt 9 for approximately 12.5 miles. You will come by a small bar on left (18th Hole) and a closed store on the right. That next left is MTN LAKE, RD (Woods Resort Sign). Make that left and follow approximately 1/4 Mile. You will come to a sharp curve there. Make that left on to Providence Church Road. (Be cautious turning there). Go over that hill and drop down in the hollow you'll See the first road on the right. Make that right (Rhododendron Drive). Follow Rhododendron approx 150 yards and take the first Left (Seldom Seen Court). I'm the only home back on the right side. (Yellow/Green Shutters) 116 on the mailbox.

Those needing a phone number E-mail me and I'll Provide one to you.

Looking forward to seeing everyone and having a great time.

Saturday Show and Picnic Update!!

As of now I have chosen 3 Judges for this years car show event. 2 of which we've used before and 1 new, one Independant of all the groups.

They are as follow:

Dan Mangino - On our forum and Daily Driven forum. He knows a little about Supercoupes, engines and swaps as he owns the Mustang with the SC swap in it.

Fletcher Smith - Mr Smith is the Plant Manager where I work. He is a car person from way back and his specialty is going round Road Course race tracks. You'll find he's a nice/fair guy and will do an excellent job judging the cars.

Mike Siska - I really need make no introduction here. Mike is the leading authority on these cars and knows more than enough to write a book on them. His accomplishments in the "Street Legal" full bodied MN12 racing world is unsurpassed.

Again this year, I will choose a 4th person from the crowd to be the tie breaker in the event they are needed. That person will be chosen at Random during the event.

We will again have the tallies done by computer as the results are turned in by the judges.

The Trophy/ Awards list looks like this: (By Class)

Thunderbird/Cougar V8-V6 (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th)
Tbird - Cougar SC (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th)
Lincoln - Mark VIII/Fox Body- (1st, 2nd, 3rd)
Fox-body 83-88 Tbird-Cougar (1st Only)
Under Construction trophy (1st, 2nd)
Best Engine compartment award (1st Place)
Best Interior Award (1st place)
Best Exterior Award (1st place)
Best of Show Award (1st Place)- Sponsored By EECDOC Performance
Drag Racer of the Year Award (1st Place)- Sponsored by Mtncatracing
Golden Piston Award (1 Only)- Sponsored by MAMN12
Joel Bender/MAMN12 Member of the year Award - Sponsored by MAMN12

Those planning to participate at this years event need to get payment in soon. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

I have paid up and will be there again this year. Hopefully this time there will be no vehicle casualties. For now I have my car running good and am looking forward to actually making some passes at the track this year. See everyone in two weeks.
