Zex Install Pics

had some free time today and my cousin and two friends came over and we installed my nitrous set up. its a zex dry kit w/ pressure gauge, zex bottle heater, and nos purge kit. it took us a little less than 6 hours to do and that includes 3 runs to autozone, 1 run to lappens and 1 to home depot. i can't beleive how easy the zex kit was to install. its literally idiot proof. we broke one of the mounting tabs on the din delete plate so i need to get a new one. it stays in place now but pops out sometimes when u flip a switch. u can see its crooked in a couple of the pics. i wasnt able to get the bottle filled cuz today is sunday and the speed shops around here are closed. i'm gettin it filled tomorrow morning. the gears, chip and tune up are coming either this thursday or the following monday, then i can start sprayin it. i just got the 75 hp jets on there now until i upgrade the fuel system. here's the pics:

purge pics coming tomorrow

hey on all those vacuum line connections....make sure to use small hose clamps. I kept blowing the hoses clean off without anything holding them on. And also zip-ties dont work. However i'm running a SC, so those lines see 16psi, plus the additional nitrous pressure for fuel enrichment.

Just some safety as if those lines come off you'll have no fuel enrichment, and its happened to me a few times now. The kit comes with the clamps, or they are just 1/4" hose clamps, you'll need 4....two for each hose.

ok. i got the hose clamps, i'll put them on before i actually use the nitrous.

got the bottle filled today, i have a very slight leak, i can hear hissing. sounds like its coming from the purge solenoid area. i gotta do the soapy water test and seal that up too.

i'll have some purge pics later on tonight.

Did you use the thread lock pipe tape, because I had the same problem, until we used that on the purge selenoid.

you guys know that you're not suposed to use tape right?

All nitrous kits prefer the use of liquid thread sealant. Its a white paste. This paste will not break apart and clog jets, or solenoids. I got mine at a local parts store, made by permatex.

If you use the tape properly it won't clog anything. Been using Teflon tape for years.

u were right. i blew the line off of the pressure regulator when i used the nitrous for the first time last night. after i used it i stopped to check and it blew clean off. so i didnt use it again until today after i clamped everything.

well i'm glad you realised it soon enough. Just make sure you use all four. I'd had them come off on all corners before. Luckly I had my wideband display, and i can see when it goes lean. It's saved my butt a few times......

It was really funny at WFC this year. There already was a Grand Marquis that had run something like a 16 or 17, but then this other one pulled up, it did have a cowl hood and tint, but I heard people in the stands laughing, until we saw it purging its nitrous. I don't remember what it did, I think it was in the 13s, but I don't remember.

I have a PLX wideband logger. Its acutally a wideband meter and also a wireless datalogger. I chose this because i wanted to datalogg all my runs and compare them to rpm, speed, air/fuel ect. It also makes things easy when i need to tune because i can see MAF voltage and TPS voltage. I also log air inlet temps after the intercooler.

The datalogger verision was $500. The normal verison with a a display is $320. Very good price for a permanent mount display. If you want the logger verison then you will need to run a laptop everytime you log, but it still has the digital display. Check out www.PLXDEVICES.com for more info. They have video clips of both their products.

The LM1 from innovative is big and bulky...but also a good item. I figured that I would need at least 3 hours dyno time to tune the computer myself to perfection, which would cost at least $300. This way I did the wideband tuning myself and like I said, It saved my skin a few times when i ran very very lean on teh spray. Basically now i can see exactly where its detonating so i can advance timing until that point, and fine tune my air/fuel ratio via the computer or via fuel jets when on the spray. Its currently set up to run 12.1 on the blower and 11.8ish with the spray with the appropriate timing retards.

Here are some screen shots.

How do you view the A/F while driving, do you have to use your laptop in car or can you hook it up to a TV Screen?

most of them come with a small display. the one from dynotune you can get the display in 2 1/16" to fit in a gauge pod.

I see you took out your stereo.

Have a link to your website so we can check out your car, or is that off of one with a similar setup? You can add it to the bottom below your sig through your user CP. Then options, or something.
