All blown up!

My cobra motor is shot. That vortech v-1 at 12 lbs just killed it. Or was it me?

i'm gonna say YES...to both

running over 6psi of boost on a stock motor does run the risk of "blowing it"

what blew up on it?

mmmmm.... What year Cobra motor?

They are forged right? I don't think the boost did it.... the tune did.

Edited - I guess all years DOHC cobras used forged cranks. I don't know the compression ratios for each year.

It's dead due to over reving in 2nd gear during a race. It had a professional dyno tune and was running 104 race fuel. She had 42 lb injectors, 90mm Lmaf and a 255 lph in tank fuel pump. By the way the crank is forged but not the pistons or rods. I just got greedy. I should have left it with 6 lbs, it had 367 at the wheels back then.

03 cobras are iron block, forged bottom end

96-98 cobras are teksid aluminum, forged crank

99-00 cobras are romeo aluminum, forged crank

Ok thread resurrection....

What is the big difference between the Romeo block and the Teksid block (other than one being iron and the other aluminum)? Is one better than the other? Is there THAT MUCH weight savings on the Teksid?

They are completely different castings. The teksid block is actually stronger than an iron block in addition to weighing less.

On the note of the crank, are the Mark8 cranks forged too? Or just the cobras?

I think that the Cobra's are the only ones that are forged.

Were all of the aluminum blocks teksid's? Reason I ask is that I've got a 1994 Mark VIII motor that I'm going to be building, and as I read through stuff, it said on the mark VIII specs that it had an aluminum engine.

Yeah, the mark8 motors were also teksids. All the aluminum 4.6s up till 98 were teksid. In 99 ford started casting the blocks themselves, and the ford blocks are slightly lighter and not as strong.
