If your grandfather builds top fuel i think I would be asking him for advice

Birdless

There is no limit to what you can acheive if you don't care who gets the credit.

OK, I'm going to be as polite as I possibly can.... IF your grandfather builds pro top fuel drag cars, HE should inherently know that you can't just bolt on a supercharger to a stock engine and expect it to live for very long and therefore he shouldn’t be offering you a supercharger “for your car”.

With that said, you’ll need…. A 3.8L SC motor or better! From what I’ve read on these forums the N/A bottom end block is not suitable for any amount of boost (except very low amounts i.e. <5 psi).

Here are “questions” you need to ask yourself before you dive into a project like that:
What type of supercharger (roots or centrifugal)?
Is the supercharger properly sized for the engine?
What is the maximum rpm (engine and supercharger)?
Who is going to fabricate the intake?
Who is going to fabricate all the intake plumbing?
Are you going to go inter/aftercooled?
What transmission are you planning on using?
Etc., etc., etc,….

And finally: Why would you supercharge a 3.8L V6 when a V8 (with or without a supercharger) will bolt right in?!?!

IMHO if you’re looking into going boosted, do some more research before you start throwing money at an engine.

But it’s your money.

a 5.0L fits quite nicely... of course they made them that way, you can always stroke them out if you like, and theres supercharger options as well.

you could swap a 3.8L SC motor in.

Other than that, if you have to ask, you probably shouldnt concern yourself.

Drop a CAT diesel in there, and run a 500 shot of nitrous on it.

It should bolt right up.

My brother in Michigan is running a similiar setup to that in his '89 SC, except his is out of a Peterbuilt or something. Not sure on the make, but its along those lines. He says it makes for incredible balast.

A stock 3.8 will easily handle more than 5 psi. You need to read more.

Some supercharged cars blow.......Others just pick up and move.

Ricer bird , I thought you were going to sell the bird and buy a honda or something ? What happened there ? When I was 17 I put a 454 chevy in a mazda rx7 , why dont you put a 427 side oiler with your nitro supercharger in your bird ? It would be bad *** and prolly run nines all day long !!

I honestly think youre full of **** but Ill humor you. Do you know what kind of blower it is?

Id personally do as follows....

Vortech Blower (6psi / 8psi with aftercooler)
Singleport intake and heads (cut/welded; ported)
MLS head gaskets
Larger TB
1.73 RR's
Custom ground cam
36# injectors
80mm MAF
Ported cast manifolds or 96-97 style manifolds
Dual 2.5" exhaust
SCT tune
High stall TC....
HD AOD, Lentech VB
TL 8.8, 3.73's

Dont know how deep you want to go into the engine. Stock bottom end will handle the above just fine....however, you should always have a backup plan. There is other junk that will need to be addressed too.....again, depends on how deep you are going into this. Your "grandfather who builds top fuel drag cars" will be able to help you with all of the little stuff.

Some supercharged cars blow.......Others just pick up and move.

My advice...Hit a junkyard and get an 89-93 Supercoupe motor. (3.8 Supercharged)

It will have everything you need to start off on the right foot and would be cheaper then trying to retrofit anything to your N/A motor

Going for broke!!!!

No, cause he may do the same thing to the SC, and that's just cruel.

EDIT:
Just curious, what about this setup (being able to hold up):
99-00 3.8 Splitport
Supersix Motorsports Stage 3 PowerPak (Heads, intake, came)
Throttle Body (I think ssm carries BBK, not sure about size)
Roller Rockers (ratio depends on cam)
IMRC delete (if needed)
Vortech (boost?)
Necessary (sp?) injectors, MAF, etc.

okay he's still spelling what wrong even after his spelling lesson on his very first post... someone needs to teach him again ROFLMAO.. man after reading the comments abou this car in this thread and I had to do a search for his username and then saw his car on cardomain and about cried... atleast he didn't deface a cougar well I guess ford did that themselves with the puma body style in 99... but I digress. Just for your info guys... some people REALLY ARE that stupid. I came out of school one afternoon guys talking about a new exhaust system and said it cost him 50 bux and I was thinking how the heck does a new exhaust cost 50 bux.. then he pointed to his muffler... yeah I laughed. and he looked at me. I just started my 77 cougar (yes it was a boat and still beat civics... scary isn't it) needless to say 351 windsor with 2.5inch true dual with mid mounted glass packs and straight pipe fromt here sounds really nice... and it was so damn loud. I miss it

get a 3.8 out of a 96-97. They are built way better, and you can supercharge them easier then the swiss cheese block you have
