The discoveries continue!
So, the first time I drove the 96 I bought, the first thing I notice was that the steering felt very tight...more so than any MN12 I have ever driven...I just figured it was the wider tires up front, more tread contact, etc.
A couple days after I bought the car, I realized that the farmiliar sound the power steering pump in all rear wheel drive fords I have ever driven makes was not there...I started to suspect that the power steering pump had been deleted, however, I was honestly afraid to look. Well, yesterday, I popped the hood. All that is there is an idler pully. No P/S pump at all....honestly, the wheel is surprisingly easy to turn, even in parking lots, however, it would be nice to have power steering, especially since the speed sensative is real nice on these.
My concern is that I am putting undue stress on balljoints and the steering rack, column, etc.
What I can't figure is why the hell would somebody get rid of the power steering...must have had something to do with the car getting steeda underdrive pullies....
