A bad rack can suddenly "come off track" internally and be cocked to one side, a bad pump will wine, howl, shreak, or bind and seize. A bad rack can also leak internally and bleed fluid into the boots causing them to swell and leak fluid.

Squeak

Hi

the pump had a squeak when I turned the wheel.

Had high - low spots. then lost all power steering at the end.

I just replaced the front K Had trouble getting the steering shaft together.
could the rack suck air?
The pump was run with low fluid when first restarted the car, adding water.

the rack can suck air, but to bleed the system all that needs to be done is the wheel needs to be turned lock to lock which will cause the air to rise up in the reservoir. If the pump was run low enough it could have caused it to burn up.

Power steer pump?

Hi

Can the pumps be rebuilt?

How do you check if A pump is good?

u can if u have ur own machine shop.

they sell rebuilt units at a more affordable price.

a bad pump would make a loud noise when u make turns. probably foam up the steering fluid.
