Spindle Nuts

Dorman lists two different spindle nuts for the 1991 Cougar.

Both front and rear get 240 ft-lbs of torque.

Both are Type 9, thread M24-2.0, 36mm, height 21mm.

One's black, one's silverish.

Does it matter for the color?

I mean, I need to replace the driver's side front hub (lost TWO studs today - hey, that probably explains the pulling and the vibration!) and have a pair of rear spindle nuts, but none of the front spindle nuts. And the nearest store with stock is 20 miles away ...

Does it really matter?

Does anyone know?

The front black ones look like the washer is a larger diamater then rear ones. I don't see any other differences besides that and the color. No idea if putting a smaller rear one would be bad or not, but I would rather not experiment lol.

Yah, I got that info off SCCoA.

Which means I could use the cheaper front ones if I had to on the back, but can't use the back ones on the front. Not for long, anyway.

Not a prob - caught up with the stepson, he'll take me the 20+ miles to the one store that has them in stock.

(Yes, I'll call first.)
