floating suspension

my 93 feels like the suspension really soft and floaty. is that normal for a 3.8n/a, or am i looking for new springs and shocks? i'm thinking of upgrading to v8 suspension, or maybe SC. i don't want kidney rattlers, just something firmer. i have kdney rattlers in my BMW, going to change that soon.
