Ah yes, the lower shock mounting bolts. I had to go through the same ordeal with the T-bird. When I did the shocks on the Cougar I was also doing the lower control arms, so I got out of having to fight those bolts that time. Luckily when I did the Mark VIII the bolts were fairly rust free (which is ironic since it's the oldest/highest mileage of the three).
