Front Upper Control arm

I need to replace the two pivot bolts on the passenger side Front (upper) Control arm. Why is another conversation! I've never done this before so i don't really know if I should leave it up to the experts or tackle it myself. Can someone help me understand what is involved here? I can see both bolts and think I can get to them but I'm afraid that when i remove one bolt, the spring will force something out of place so I won't be able to get the new one back in. I'd appreciate it if someone can let me know the right steps to follow.

Minor nitpick, it's called simply an upper control arm. In automotive parlance a swing arm is entirely different.

The Upper control arms are straight forward to change it's just tight access to the nuts/bolts and you'll be making a lot of quarter turns of the wrench. Place a floor jack under the lower control arm before you remove the UCA bolt from the spindle and when you do gently let the jack down, then reverse for reinstallation

Get a ratcheting 18mm box wrench. It might take some time because you don't have much room to move the wrench, but you'll get it done.

To make it easier, you might want to remove the pinch bolt from the the spindle and pop out the ball joint.

Thanks folks.
Not sure where the jack comes into this. Do I need to jack the car up before removing the UCA pivot bolts? Is the jack under the lower control arm just to apply pressure to keep things in alignment?
(yes I’m new to suspension work!)

Follow Matt's directions!

Yes, jack the car up and put a jack stand under it before beginning!

Keep the jack under the lower control to support the suspension while you unbolt the bolt joint from the spindle.

I shopped around when replacing my front UCAs. All the parts stores had UCAs that either came with no pivot bolts at all, or (curiously) just one. If you do replace those bolts, you will probably have to match them up somewhere, so make sure you get the proper size and grade hardware.

Why do you think you need to replace those bolts? I have never heard of someone replacing just the bolts. When I replaced my upper control arms I re-used the factory hardware.

Thanks for all the helpful responses! I broke down and paid $65- to have one of the local shops to replace the pivot bolts with the original factory bolts. Unfortunately it didn't have the desired effect. I thought my problem was due to the pivot bolts since the guy that replaced my UCAs about 25K miles ago used the two outer pinch bolts (supplied with the UCA's) on the right side instead of re-using the original pivot bolts. The pinch bolts are the same size but a different style. i figured they were loosening up and probably caused the problem but no such luck. Since I still need help with my pesky problem i started a new thread here:
