Cobra vs Thunderbird rear bearings and seals

I need to throw new bearings in my 94 hub swapped tbird. Are the bearings and seals the same for a 94 tbird vs the 99 mustang cobra? If someone has a list of Timken parts that would be awesome.

Bearings are the same. There are no seals for the rear wheel bearings, just the hub on one side and the axle on the other.

The axle nut is 36mm and is p/n FOSZ-4B477-A.

1994 Thunderbird - 2000 4.2L M5R2 now has 55k

1995 Thunderbird - 2002 Alum 4.6L SVO - Awaiting transplant... (Parts donor)

1996 Cougar - 2004 3.9L 4R70W

The hub nut number changed this year, it's now a hardware number W707772-S441. Used originally on the newer Expeditions and Navigators, it's a Nylock style nut now rather than the captive stack style.

Thanks Ed, I'm guessing my failure was probably due to over torqueing. Do you guys use a torque wrench to set them?

Roll the wheel as you tighten it; the bolt sets the preload on the bearings.

It'll move a bit if you do it right.

I usually stand on it; that's better than my impact.

Yeah, usually at that point I have the wheels on; the weight needs to be on them to tighten the suspension bolts, unless you want it jacked up in the rear for a while.

If you spin the bearing as you tighten it up, the center of it will fully seat between the hub and nose of the axle.

The axle slides the bearing inner on the hub as you tighten it down, until everything is tight.

If it doesn't tighten up together and take a preload, it will be wasted in 6 months or so.

On another note, I hope you checked them for grease; the last few I've gotten have been 50/50, None of the Koyo's had grease.
