Front wheel hubs

So I just got my new wheels and tires, took it into the alignment shop, and I need to replace the inner and outer tie rod end on the passenger side, the driver's side wheel bearing is loose (but not noisy yet), and the rear knuckle bushings are weather checked. He quoted me $600, but i know I can get the parts much less and install them myself.

My question is, on the front wheel hubs, on Rock Auto they all have the ABS ring, and my car is non abs. Are they interchangeable? I would assume since they all use the same spindles, that the ABS equipment just isn't installed on the car, and the hubs are the same, just making sure before I order.

Yep if your car car doesn't have ABS you can use either one

Thanks! And it's really as simple as just removing the caliper, dust cap, center bolt, and just sliding the new one on?

Pretty much that simple. Technically you should buy new spindle nuts too, because they are a one time use interference locking thread. I did buy new spindle nuts for my Cougar at my local Ford dealer for about $15 each IIRC, it took a few days to order them in. Dorman makes some replacements but I have heard they don't work well and can damage the spindle threads.

On the other hand others here have said red loctite works fine with the old nuts..... I know that a lot of garages wouldn't hesitate to just reuse the old spindle nuts.

Either way make sure you get the torque right I believe they are 180ish ft lbs? Not 100% on that its been a year.

+ removing the rotor. It really is that simple. I've replaced them in 15 minutes. Hardest part is getting the dust cap off..and even that is pretty easy.

Get all your tools ready and start the timer. It's too easy to pay someone to do it.

The torque value is 180-240 ft lbs IIRC. I always go for about 230ft. lbs...better tight than loose I guess.

FYI I bought a pack of 4 axle locknuts from my Ford dealer for $24...Canadian dollars too. Seems some people are overpaying.

Advance auto wants $50 each, but Rock Auto has a 5 pack for $30. I'll need two, so I'll either keep the rest or put hem on the marketplace.

Just be careful. The Dorman nuts are known to ruin the threads.

The way the Dormans stake, they're almost as hard as the spindle, so they tend to chew the threads up.

There's threads about them here on the forum.

The Motorcraft ones are, IIRC.
