Air ride compressor rebuild

I have a 94 Mark 8 and thanks to my leaky front strut the compressor is starting to sound a little weak. Back when the forums were booming I remember reading about one guy who added roller bearings to the compressor and decreased the amp load it took to run. I also remember hearing people say they rebuilt them with rubber O rings. Has anyone done any of that? I'd like to give it a shot.

Ive been searching and searching but cant seem to find the threads anywhere. The worst part is I just happened to stumble on to those threads when they were of no importance to me I read them but never saved them. Anyone have a bad compressor they want to donate? I figure I'll tear it down and see what I can come up with.
