Front Lower Control Arms Material

What material are the front lower control arms made from? Cast iron or forged steel?

I'm asking because I'm thinking about an off season project to make adjustable front LCAs by modifying the stock part.

I've sawed one in half, it's steel; IDK forged or not.

It is definitely NOT cast iron.

It wasted a sawzall blade; I was making a brace for a project out of one of the ones with non replaceable ball joints, and it was just the right size.

Two of them take full up sledgehammer blows; so it's some tough stuff.

Excellent. So that means that it will be weldable much easier than cast iron is. Now I just need to find some old ones to experiment with before I go whole hog.

I'll look later today; If I didn't recycle them, I have a set.

I'll give them to you for shipping.

They would be stock TRW from the bird. If I kept them.

I do tend to keep crap like this, just in case I run over another curb, lol.

The more I'm thinking about it the more I'm wondering if I wouldn't just make everything from the strut rod with turnbuckles and a new LCA designed around that particular design.

Of course, I'm just fantasizing at that point.
