Replaced upper control arm

Finally had an upper ball joint wear out at 205,000 miles.

Driver's side had about 1/8" of side to side play in it.

Glad to see the new motorcraft ones have a grease fitting.

Tools needed;

Trolley jack, and one jack stand.

18mm 6 point combination wrench.

18mm Craftsman ratcheting combination wrench.

Torque wrench.

Torch - to heat up the upper spindle arm.

Lots of brute strength....lol

Worst part of job for me. Separating the ball joint stud out of the upper spindle arm.

Last weekend I started to disassemble the suspension in anticipation of our GP lowering springs. The rear springs came right out after a few bolts were removed. The right front spring/shock assembly also was cake. The left front we had to wrestle with the upper spindle like you did and the worst part - I cannot get the lower shock bolt out of the lower control arm bushing. The nut is off, it turns, it just won't come out!

I haven't removed a lower shock bolt before, but if you search thru the forums, someone posted the details on getting that out. I think there is a split steel sleeve around the bolt. Corrossion probably 'fuses' the three together (control arm, bolt, sleeve)
