help with snapped rear sway bar bracket

I snapped a rear sway bar bracket. I picked a new one up from Ford and noticed it wouldn't fit. After a closer look, the slots on the tab side of the bracket are narrower on the new bracket. My question is do I have the new one cut to match the original, or is that part of why it snapped? I assume the original slots grew wider from wear and tear, but I want to be sure. Any help is appreciated.

rusty steel wheels, Trans-Go shift kit ( soon to be removed), Alpine + Clarion speakers, Sony cassette head unit, Addco 1.25 rear sway bar, Tokico shocks, PBR GT calipers
