Shocks: Anyone with cobra rears, get in here!!!

tommarow i have the day off and im doing rear brake rotors, brakes, rear end service, and rear shocks. I was looking into getting monroe sensa-tracs untill i found out that the cobra vert shocks will work. How does the ride of the cobra rears feel compared to stock, and does it affect anything else ie: ride height. I did a search and i couldn't find any straight forward answers to my problems. Also should i spray down the bolts with pb blaster tonight and let it soak in? TIA

Everyone says they're pretty stiff, but I wish I had gotten them instead of plain ol' motorcraft MN12 shocks. It shouldn't affect your ride height at all.

It would be a good idea to spray your stuff down with a penetrant/lubricant tonight, it would just make it that much easier. Rear shocks are a breeze though really.

TCCoA, there's no better way.

BTW whats the ford p/n and should my local stealership have these in stock.

if i had more than one day off a week from murrays auto i would help ya out, and were those parts ordered or did the dealer have them stocked

Get the cobra vert rear shocks, I love em. You need different size nuts for the rear shocks and a couple washers that go on top.. ORRR take a Drill or a die grinder and cut eh stock Nut from the washer... (they are like pressed together kinda..) and use the stock washer and nut.

Slap some Sport LX front shocks upfront aswell... they are very nice aswell.

have those sitting in the living room now and eibach sitting in the bedroom.
i post 2 part number there.
one is for the shocks and one is for the nuts.

rockauto also have the rear bilstein shocks for about the same price too.

well i did the job yesterday and i put in monroe sensa tracs in anyways my stockers were so shot when i compreesed them it took at least five minutes for them to decompress, now the ride is much more smoother.

I have started to install the vert shocks on my 96 LX, the only problem I'm having is that the upper mounts only came with what appears to be just 1/2 a bushing. I have searched the verious thread dealing with these shocks and all I can find is to use new nuts. I have the recommended nuts but what am I suppose to use for the bushing that is suppose to be in the trunk between the shock mounting hole and the washer/nut? The washer/nut assembly is smaller than the mounting hole let alone will not make a snug fit. What di you guys use. I'm not proud, paint me a picture with cyrans if nessicary. A pic would be even better if anyone has one.

Cant you use your old bushings if not too worn? Or get some kinda bushing from the HELP! section at your local parts stores? Help! is your friend when doing crazy swaps.

The cobra shocks come in pairs or each?

I am assuming yes, and the sport shocks are each? Rock auto does nto say each or pair

On RockAuto, the prices are per shock. Make sure you get 03 Cobra shocks. I ordered 01 Cobra shocks from RockAuto and they didn't fit.

Oh, and if you haven't found the right nut yet, you could go to the hardware store and get the appropriate locknut and washer in Grade 8 or its metric equivalent. I had to do that with my front shocks, and I haven't had any problems. The grade 8 hardware is probably stronger than the OEM stuff anyway. I think they use metric 8.8 grade, which is closer to a Grade 5.

I just put a pair of Monroe Reflex rear shocks on my 95 LX. They are supposed to be Monroe's new high perf deal; i.e. they ride a little stiffer than Sensa-Tracs. I'm pretty happy with them. They're great on potholes, a little harsh on freeway expansion joints. It's kind of hard to evaluate the effect on handling because my fronts are so shot- I haven't done them yet. I think I wanna do a major front end rebuild at the same time. I got the Reflexes from Pick Pro Parts (or something like that) on the net for $65, delivered. No hassles installing them. (aside from destroying a cheap 3/8" extension...)
