Angry excessive suspension travel?

ok... in my 1993 Mark VIII, the suspension on the front passengers side is traveling ALOT and I can't figure out why.

I noticed this problem yesterday and I doubt it's safe to drive like this but I can't, for the life of me, figure out what the hell is going on with it.

I checked the top of the strut towers to see if the sheet metal tore (I've seen it happen before) and it's solid. My airbags don't sag at all, the sensor is firmly in place, the front end components look all ok aswell. Granted it could use some bushings in the near future, but I highly doubt that would effect it the way it is.

what is happening is, I will hit a small bump in the road and the drivers side feels extremely firm (almost sports car like) and the passenger side will bounce on it. Very hard to really discribe but this is not cool. When I say bounce... I mean it REALLY bounces. Picture driving a car with beat *** shocks in the front... when you hit any kind of dip in the road it will start bouncing... well that's the same thing happening to me, only on the one side.

But how is this possible with air bags? I don't see how it can happen... but it is. Like I said... my bags don't leak and they don't sag. I could leave the car parked for 3 days without the slightest sag...

any ideas?

thanks,
-Steve

I'm pretty sure the front bags are a "dual purpose" item. They work setting the height and the load, but they also have a built in shock absorber.

From what I've heard, the shock absorber part can go bad, but not the bag itself. Then it acts just like a regular car with a bad shock; lots of bouncing and movement. But usually the bag goes first.

But I'm not 100% sure so don’t hold me to that if it’s wrong.
