Exclamation H&R vs. Eibach

Does anyone know if there are any difference between the H&R springs and the Eibach with the exception of ride height? (i.e spring rate, the rate of progression in the spring itself or quality of the spring material)

I Plan on auto crossing and road racing the car heavily. The will be coupled first with KYB shocks and then as soon as funds allow, Koni Yellows.

Any input is appreciated

I have been running eibachs with kybs for drifting, lapping days, and autocross and have been very happy. I have heard that they are softer than h&r. they are definatley not a pure road race spring, but are still pretty stiff. you may want to check out the vogtland springs. I have heard good things about them. I cut a coil off my eibachs recently and am running an 1 3/8" sway bar in the rear, both of which reall helped stiffen up the car.
coupled with a good set of 17 or 18 inch tires, they are definatley a good starting point.

Do you already have the KYBs? If not, don't bother spend the money on them if you're going to put the Konis in later (which you should).

Suspension Techniques springs are linear rate, and probably better for track use than any of the others. But they are discontinued, and I'm not sure if the Springtech ones being sold on eBay now (by the same people who did the Susp. Techniques passenger car springs before being bought out by BellTech) are the same spring rates or not.

Having said that, I'm pretty happy with the Eibachs in my car for open-track use, since I've had the Konis with them. Originally I had the Tokico Illumina replacements for the SC, and they weren't stiff enough for track use really. But I do have a set of the Susp. Tech. springs on the way that I plan to try this year instead.

the only thing is if your stock shocks are junk, which they probably are, mine were, kybs are a good inexpensive upgrade until you can get the good stuff. baby steps.

I agree with Ed, just wait and do KONI's straight up. I have KYB's and they're good for a daily car, but when the time comes to go full blown racer, KONI's will be in order. I have Eibachs and love em, but if something was available firmer, I might try it. I really like the progressive spring though, not sure if H&R's are or not.

dont get me wrong, konis ARE the way to go, I hope to obtain them in the semi-realistic future. btw h&rs are progressive.

Precisly! the stock shocks are BLOWN OUT, the car bobs up and down on the x-press way (not too bad). I just changed daily jobs (the magazine is in my spare time) so funds are TIGHT. But I have to get out there this season and do something!

i have the eibach and was told to go with 97 sport front shocks and 03 cobra rears. i have them just waiting to install u ntil i am ready. i am battling a ride height issue rightnow so i am waiting.

I've got Eibachs that need to be taken off of the LE (when weather and time permit) and before they go on the LX the worn out Sport shocks are coming out of them and KYB's are going in. Why KYB's? I'm sure they are better than Gabriels, and I can't afford to spend 3 times as much on Koni's. (as good as they may be). I'm really psyched about getting them put in. (Just don't like the stance of the car on stock springs anymore).

Lists the info for all of the MN-12 springs. Looks like the Eibachs have a slightly larger progressive range than the H&Rs. Material, I doubt there would be much difference, both are suppliers of high quality products.

If you are going to go KYB first, then Koni later, make sure to keep your original front shocks. The Koni fronts are insert cartridges only, so you may as well cut up old dead shocks, then you can sell the used KYBs hopefully.

I was able to order a set through one of the local wholesalers I deal with, I lucked out a bit there.

I'd suggest checking with the eBay seller of the Springtech springs, to see if the ones they have now are the same springs as the old Susp. Techniques.

Well even thou you got the info you wanted.. But the whole SOTP thing from exprience shoudl be good for SOMETHING

Saddly this is with Koni's for shocks.. but i've had both Eibachs and H&R's on my car..

The Eibachs where a Nice spring, Turn the Koni's down abit, and the car is a Nice cruiser.. Handled pretty well and all that..

The H&R's seemed to work better with the Koni's (Was able to run them at a lower setting then the with the Eibachs to get the same basic feel, which i liked the idea of), but with the koni's i can still dial out a Nice cruising ride, and if i wanted firm up the Koni's and have a HARD ride, and felt as if the car was slighly more planted to the ground too in the handling/tossing the car around aspect..

And the only other Combo's i have tried have been Stock springs and Tokico Illumina 2's (Replacement to the ARC shocks) and those Tokico shocks and H&R (WORSE combo ever)

I still like to try a set of decent Linear Springs that have a 1.75 front and 1.5 rear drop.. (Which i was expecting with the H&R's but never got )

This may of not been helpfull but thought i throw it out there..
