Headgaskets.

As you all know (and expected) I have blown my headgaskets!

Now I am stuck with replaceing them this weekend. I have orderd the 2.8 v-6 ARP hex studs from the camaro. as well as the fel pro MLS gasket set and a few other parts also. Everything will be here wed.

I have a few questions before I tear into this motor.

Does anyone have a parts list? I have ordered:

ARP Head Bolts.- summit
Fel Pro MLS gasket kit for a 89-92 supercoupe - SCP
Fuel filter, pcv, Trans filter, Trans gasket kit, double plat autolites, motorcraft wires,

I have to drive home for christmas so what am i missing?

What do I tourque the head bolts to?
What order?

Can someone who has done this before help PLEASE!!!!!!
If someone wants to come over and help I'll buy the Beers and snacks.

hey man i have the book, chiltons it tells you everything you need to no. first the lower intake tighten the bolts starting in the center drivers side first than switch to middle pass. side for two and three is torward the back of the motor drivers side. 4 is forward of two toward front of the motor. 5 is in front of 1 and you follow this pattren till you run out of bolts. lol they all need to be snuged before you torque them down to 8ft lbs the first time, 15ft lbs the second and finally 24 ft lbs.

head studs i have no i dea but the nuts will need to be torqued to 37, 45, 52, 59 ft lbs. you start with the third bolt back in side the head. 2 is the second one back on the edge of the head. 3 is in front of 1 and 4 is behind 2. ok man i hope this helps. if not **** you. lol jk man. go buy a book at autozone or oriellys. or call me if you have ?s 716 909 3903 don

I would get the book and not listen to don. Hes not real good at using a torque wrench. If it says 20 ft lbs he puts it at 72 ft lbs.

Don you know I got to pick on you.

milowe, wednesday is the big day, huh? might as well have a little wrench-turning party in your parking lot (pumpkin swap for me!). what are they gonna do, kick you out? i have helped replace hg's twice, but never on an sc. you're replacing the tranny filter and gasket, and no shift kit? what's wrong with you?

you need to get your heads rebuilt, too. i have two torque wrenches.

yeah, you'll need to get the heads resurfaced, and sorry to say. i think you'll find it hard to get those heads back from a machine shop intime to make it home for christmas.

not to mention special tools i believe to rebuild the internals on the heads right?

id like to come help, but ill probably be in san antonio looking at cars to buy.

Anyone have a recommendation for the machine shop?

I don't think I'm going to rebuild the heads as I don't have the money. but will have them machined. My grand totoal in parts right now is hovering around $1000. (ordered full ploy bushing front and rear also).

Also Is anybody free thursday? I really REALLY need someone to go with me to Dallas for my PERFECT CONDITION NEW INTERIOR. Mike is giong too but a fully dressed 5.0 and a full interior including dash wont really fit in his ricer.

I sold my neighbor a '91 T-bird thinking the head gasket was blown. He replaced both of them and then came storming over with the problem unfixed. In the end, it was a computer problem and at least one cylinder was not firing. It had all the symptoms of a blown head gasket, sweet smell in the exhaust, white exhaust, crankcase overfilling with some liquid. I think the liquid turned out to be gasoline though, the oil never turned whitish like you'd expect with coolant in it. Anyway, he replaced the computer and it ran great -- with new head gaskets as a bonus. Just thought I'd mention it. I may be way off. It was the 3.8 V6.

your best bet is to start calling around milowe, and begging a lot. you might even have to blow someone to get a set of heads back machined before this weekend.

I'd love to rent a truck but have one small problem. No DL.

As far as the HG's go. The car DOES NOT seem to have a bad headgaket. The oil is glean there is no blowby in the radiatior. There is white smoke coming out the exhaust but its smells badly of gas not coolant.

I am doing the headgaskets regardless as I have already paid for them but what else could cause it? BTW, The blower sounds like it has marbles in it.

i would ask some of the guys that have SC's. sounds like it may be a blower or oil issue. try sccoa too.

And marbles in the blower. My 89 did that for as long as I had it. It's not a good thing but not necessarily terminal either.

Make sure they know that the heads need to be like a mirror for the MLS gaskets.

personally if were me. i'd look at a plane ticket, or a rental car. rental may make up the difference in gas mileage alone.
